⭐ Any Stephan Leather fan will enjoy this book. I was never a fan of short stories, but now find them very enjoyable. I liked to immerse myself in a lengthy book and if the book was a good read I was disappointed when it ended. Now I find the short story fun to read and Mr. Leather deliveries a very good read. If you like colorful characters, Spider Shepherd is hard to beat.Fred
⭐ My wife Avril read this story and quite honestly could not get to grips with it. She is a great fan of Stephen Leather and the (Spider) Dan Shepherd series of books. He is an exciting writer and Avril has read nearly all his books. This one did not make it, despite the fact that it was a an introduction into Dan Shepherds journey from the Army into the SAS, it is an introduction that should have been part of his first book in the series . Perhaps short stories based on sections of his “real” books are not his bag and they (the short stories) demean the books?
⭐ Great story a real nail biter. All round good stuff which will have you on the edge of the seat.
⭐ Spider is my favourite hero, this keeps building my enthusiasium
⭐ Really good yarn
⭐ Brilliant short story, very informative and great tension created at the end making for a page turner. I thoroughly recommend this book.
⭐ Another great story from Stephen Leather featuring our hero Dan ‘Spider’ Shepherd, this time set in the Brecon Beacons of Wales in December 1996, during the period of Spider’s Selection into the SAS. The story takes place during the Escape and Evasion (E&E) portion of his training and selection, which I found hugely interesting. It’s fascinating to learn about the SAS selection process which is highly demanding, if these books reflect the reality, and I’m guessing they weren’t written without some reasonable research. This is part of a number of short stories that act as prequels to the novels, which start after Shepherd has left the SAS and joined the police, so it’s great to get more of his back story.I love all Leather’s Shepherd tales and they definitely keep me gripped. As I’ve read more of this author’s work I’ve become more of a fan of his style, with his acute observations and straightforward, economical use of language.
⭐ I like most of the Dan Sheperd books. After I selected this book to read I realised I had read it befor in the full book form. What was not obvious pre selection was that it was a short story version. Normally my Kindle tells me that a book had been selected previously, but not in this case. Some one previously had made a comment regarding the morality of selling short versions of books at full version prices!
⭐ I like these Spider Shepherd stories. Even the short ones grab you. Sometimes I wish I had my time over again and could do something similar. A good short story with an insight into some of the modern soldiers training.
⭐ As usual, Spider Shepherd doesn’t disappoint. Good story and characters, believable action.
