⭐ When I was a pre-teen, I fell in love with R.L. Stine and his Fear Street books. I was a little too old when his Goosebump series finally came out, but figured that it would be great for the younger audience. I kept this in mind when I had two little girls, and was really hoping that at least one of them would be interested in this great author.Low and behold, after the Goosebumps movie came out, one of my daughters wanted to read the book after I explained that the movie was based off his books. We read the first one together and plan on reading all of them, in order. My daughter is only 6 but is mature enough to handle any of the “scariness” she comes across. I recommend that parents read it with their kids to see if they would be able to handle some of the things discussed (nothing like Fear Street novels). Some kids may not be into (mild) horror and may get scared, so proceed with caution if under 8 (as recommended).
⭐ My 7 1/2 year old son wanted me to read something scary. I am a huge horror fan, so I couldn’t read him my books (Stephen King and Anne Rice are bit too scary for his impressionable mind, I didn’t want him to have nightmares). This was his first Goosebumps book and he enjoyed every moment, even the scary ones were a thrill for him. We’ve finished the 2nd one, “The Haunted Car’ and now we’re waiting on the third he chose, a story about a dog.
⭐ Not scary. If thats what you want then go with Stephen King. This felt more like a guessing game because I didn’t know what was going to happen next. Maybe it’s because I’m an adult. This vintriluquist doll named Slappy is in several other books. I think there’s about 9 of them. He even has a brother and girlfriend in another book. So he has some evil spirit in him and wants to control children as his slaves. Like any other Goosebumps series the bad guy somehow survives but the victims managed to escape.
⭐ My son and I are reading this, and while he seems to be enjoying it, I can’t get over how poorly written the book is. Granted, this is the first book in the series, and I’m sure the author gets better with practice, but I am surprised the book ever got published in the first place. That said, I know the Goosebumps series is incredibly popular, and anything that gets kids reading is a good thing, but the poor writing makes it hard for me to read.
⭐ I didn’t grow up reading these Goosebumps books, so I wanted to give a couple a shot. This was my second. It’s exactly what one would imagine from the title and synopsis, there really are no surprises. It was fast and fun, the kids in there were quite annoying though (entitled, competitive). It was written well for the intended audience, I would have probably liked these when I was 9-10 yrs old.
⭐ R.L. Stine writes the best creepy and suspenseful books for young readers. I have always been a fan of the books and the series, but the books are always better! The Fear Street books were a personal favorite and I highly recommend for the more mature audience. This particular book is a classic and a good read that is referenced many times in the Stine universe.
⭐ Was very disappointed in the shape it was in when it got to my house. Wasn’t even properly packed. Was just laying in with another box. One whole corner was bent and torn. WILL NOT BUY ONE HERE AGAIN.
⭐ I thought the book was good. I have six year-old twin girls. One girl loved the book, the book scared the other twin and gave her nightmares. I recommend getting the audible to accompany this book for small children. My girls were able to listen to the book, while simultaneously following along on my kindle.
⭐ Great book to read to any pre-horror fans. My 6 year old son is interested in any and everything scary, but of course I have to limit what he is exposed too (all though with a 16 year old sister that’s sometimes hard to do).I read this book to him and he loved it. Just scary enough for a little guy.
⭐ This was my first Goosebumps, and probably the best-known one. It rated high on my creepy-o-meter. In part because I’ve always disliked ventriloquist’s dummies. A creepy good read for the eleven year olds in your life.
