Born Rene Brabazon Raymond in London, the son of a British colonel in the Indian Army, James Hadley Chase was educated at King’s School in Rochester, Kent, and left home at the age of 18. He initially worked in book sales until, inspired by the rise of gangster culture during the Depression and by reading James M. Cain’s The Postman Always Rings Twice, he wrote his first novel, No Orchids for Miss Blandish. Despite the American setting of many of his novels, Chase (like Peter Cheyney, another hugely successful British noir writer) never lived there, writing with the aid of maps and a slang dictionary. He had phenomenal success with the novel, which continued unabated throughout his entire career, spanning 45 years and nearly 90 novels. His work was published in dozens of languages and over thirty titles were adapted for film. He served in the RAF during World War II, where he also edited the RAF Journal. In 1956 he moved to France with his wife and son; they later moved to Switzerland, where Chase lived until his death in 1985. –This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

⭐ A tightly written thriller with interesting characters. Chase skillfully plays with human weaknesses and greed. Ample twists and turns .

⭐ Very interesting novel

⭐ Some movies and book haves very suspenseful first scenes( or pages) which remain forever etched in the memory, no matter the age .The first scenes of Close Encounters and Inglorious Bastards are prime examples of first rush of anxiety and paranoia . IMHO,the first few pages of One Bright Morning count among the most thrilling ever written. My taste in thrillers is quite wide and up to date (Thomas Harris,Stephen King , James Patterson, Harlan Coben, Jo Nesbo, Higashino and such) but Chase tops them all at least in the beginning of this book. The suspense continues throughout the book. Chase in his long career wrote some classic hard boiled crime thrillers but also has a few boring and rambling ones to his credit. This book certainly is one of the classics

⭐ Hard to put down. This was James Hadley Chase at his best. I had read this while in high school about 40 years ago – in Nigeria. How time flies. It was nice revisiting one of my favorites in his series.A thriller in the true sense of it.

⭐ It’s one of the best books I have read in a while. An ingenious premise serves as the introduction to a gripping story, twisty and unpredictable. A brilliant read. And what a cast of human characters portrayed with wit and not a hint of political correctness (which plagues the 21st century literature). A firework of a book from a master thriller writer! I adored every page of it.

⭐ I enjoyed every little line of this book. An example of an unputdownable book. This is what James H C is about.

⭐ Brillint book and great price.

⭐ Most of JHC’s books are worth reading. This is one of them. It is amazing how he thinks of so many unexpected twists and turns to the plot.

⭐ A really good read, again very dated but I believe the book is quite old still it was exciting held your attention. Xx
