Description

Villains across London are being beaten, crippled and killed by vigilante cops. Crime rates are falling, but the powers that be want Dan ‘Spider’ Shepherd to bring the wave of rough justice to an end.

Shepherd has always known that there are grey areas in the fight against crime. And that sometimes justice gets lost in the process.

He has never been comfortable investigating cops, but working for the Serious Organised Crime Agency means that he has no choice. He has to go undercover with an elite group of officers who are at the sharp end of policing, risking their lives daily on the toughest streets in the Capital.

But Shepherd has hard decisions of his own to make when his family is in the firing line.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Just when you might have thought Spider had become a PC weenie, now we have him dispensing rough justice to terrorists, and rapists. All while working undercover to bust some cops who may be doing the same thing, without as much skill at hiding their tracks. Definitely an improvement over the last one when he was sympathizing with criminals and worried about the feelings of terrorists. Nice to see Spider with his legs under him again. And I learned a lot of British slang, like calling a full breakfast a fry-up and people from Wales, Taffy

⭐ Another very satisfying chapter of the Dan Shepherd series. In fact, this is one of the better books, as I find the book very well put together. The overall theme is vigilante / or rough justice as the title indicates. Spider is infiltrating a special unit doing such dirty deeds (basically roughing up / torturing, and even killing some of the worst scums/criminals who they feel are getting away from failed juridical system). It is nice to see that Spider’s sidekick Razor has at last a bit more importance in this book. However, if you enjoy Yokely you’ll be disappointed as he is absent from this book, which isn’t – for the most part – touching upon terrorism. Finally, this installment is actually thought provoking as Spider is perhaps doing himself what he is condemning others to do.

⭐ I have had a signed trade paperback copy of Rough Justice for years, but finally got around to reading this thriller. I did not want to mess with my paper copy of the book and got me a Kindle copy. As always I loved Stephen’s Spider books (and others as well). Tough job for Spider, spying on fellow police officers, and he was not totally against what they were doing. With his undercover work Spider always walks a fine line. Plus trying to raise a young son? Tough. Going to go back read the books from the beginning. Already read book 1 and will check out book 2 soon.

⭐ The complex plots (usually more than one) of Leather’s “Spider series” really pull in the reader. The writer also creates British TV plots — I would love to see them. I have recommended this series to my students — who must read 300 pages each quarter, have a “book talk” with me, and create a project.Read the series in order if at all possible. You’ll get to know Spider and have information from past books. The plots are very realistic and seem to be torn from the top newspapers as well as CNN. And, as in good writing, all is not exactly what it seems. I love being tricked! The ending usually has a twist — something to think about.

⭐ I’ve been a long time follower of Stephen Leather and have read just about all of his books – needless to say I have enjoyed the lot.Contrary to some other reviews I found Rough Justice to be one of the better Spider books – it is fast paced, a great story line, and explores the individual characters well. In fact I’d go as far as saying it’s my favourite so far (yet to read False Friends and Fair Game).Yes, it is a bit different to the other Spider books I’ve read but I see that as an integral step in developing the Spider character and moving the story along. This episode also goes that extra step in involving Spiders family (son and au pair) in the action.Job well done, looking forward to reading the next few.@stewiejp

⭐ Love this series and Im sad to be reaching the end of it. Hope that the author has more planned as I will certainly continue to read them. Besides the thoughtfulness and great storytelling , I fascinated by the differences in the US vs UK view on current controversies from gun control, police weaponry(or lack thereof) and racial issues to immigration problems and so on. Look forward to more

⭐ Another great writing by Stephen Leather. If this is close to reality then Europe is in grave danger today. America is close behind. Good perspective.

⭐ I thoroughly enjoy the whole series of the Spider Shepherd books. Each one is pure escapism and written in a taut exiting manner. I look forward to the next book in this series after going back and reading all the previous books, Spider Shepherd is a believable character (unlike most characters) in this genre. Why only 4 stars? simply because I cannot keep on giving 5 stars for books in this series, this would otherwise appear biased!! Love it.Harry

⭐ Great Book!

⭐ I am in the process of re-reading all of the Dan{Spider} Shepherd books. Cant get enough of him. Have got many in hardcover but have bought the ones we didnt have in hard copy.
