⭐ The ending came so abruptly that I was in Shock!!!I don’t want to include any spoilers here, but this was definitely one of his more hair-raising books. I love the way he blends real science with science of the future. Considering when this book was written, he really is on the cutting edge of scientific thinking.I just love, love, love this author! I hope he keeps writing books for a long, long time. The ending is a little bit of a cliffhanger. I really would like him to have resolved one last question.
⭐ I enjoyed reading Shock. It was well written – as expected from Robin Cook, but a bit disappointing. The characters felt a bit forced, and although the medical technologies played a key role, they were thinly presented and felt a tad artificial. The suspense scenes in which the heroines hide and escape are not the best examples of Robin Cooks writing. The surprise ending lifted the book from a three to a four star book!
⭐ Love this book. Robin Cook is a master at keeping you in the edge of your seat. The whole time I was reading I could see all the characters and the action in my head. Robin Cook has always impressed me with his writing. I have never been disappointed in his books. If you love thrillers you will love this book!
⭐ Like many other of the reviewers, I felt the writing for this book was not up to Robin Cook’s usual standards. The conversation between the two women was rather moronic at times, and a great deal of it did not progress the storyline. My impression was worsened, however, by the dramatization given the book by the reader, C.J. Critt. I found her interpretation exceedingly trying and think I would have liked this book better had I read it rather than listening to the audio CD.
⭐ Considering that the author must be a bright person, given that he is an MD, I am amazed at the low intelligence level of the book. It was just terrible and full of every stupid stereotype you could imagine. I have read other books by this author, but this may be the last one.
⭐ I have a hard time believing that the Robin Cook whose books I have grabbed up as soon as they hit the shelves really wrote this one. The motivation for the female protagonists is stretched so far as to be ridiculous. His dialog, which is normally bright and realistic, is stale and sometimes warrants on being silly. Considering how much trouble these two girls were able to get themselves into, their terror never really comes across on the pages. Since they are not terrified, neither was I as the reader. Personally, I don’t like a book where I can easily predict the ending and I figured this one out before I was halfway through the book, and since the story never had a satisfied ending, I can only surmise that Mr. Cook is planning a sequel. I won’t be buying it.
⭐ A Robin Cook novel is a page Turner with enough medical jargon to let us know he’s a real doctor. This one had too much medical jargon in the beginning and it was labour intensive to get thru. After that, it failed to become a page turner until the last 5%· Finally, it failed with an incomplete ending.
⭐ As a fan of Robin Cook since “Coma” I was surprised by this book. I’ve come to expect a lot of medical detail, seemingly unrelated vignettes all coming together mid-story, suspense, and edge-of-the-seat spine tingling scenes leading to a frenzied climax. This book on the other hand was quite flat. The characters and their actions were unbelieveable, their ethics questionable (breaking into a fertility clinic before there’s any plausible reason to do so), and everything was cliched and predictable.Perhaps Dr. Cook has run out of steam, or thought he could dash off a novel without devoting his full attention to it, depending on his name to sell copies. He’s doing himself harm, since he’s put his readers on notice that they can’t automatically expect a high quality thriller anymore when they see his name.
⭐ This book had the stupidest plot I’ve ever read and two of the stupidest women. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a Robin Cook book but it will definitely be my last time.
⭐ Typical Robin Cook. Fairly interesting but nothing new.
