Description
When Cliff Hardy signs on as a bodyguard for charismatic populist Rory O’Hara, who is about to embark on a campaign of social and political renewal, it looks like a tricky job – O’Hara has enemies. A murder and a kidnapping cause the campaign to fall apart.
Hired to investigate the murder, Hardy uncovers hidden agendas among O’Hara’s staff as well as powerful political and commercial forces at work. His investigation takes him from the pubs and brothels of Sydney to the heart of power in Canberra and the outskirts of Darwin. There he teams up with a resourceful indigenous private detective and forms an uneasy alliance with the beautiful Penelope Marinos, formerly O’Hara’s PA.
A rogue intelligence agent becomes his target and Hardy stumbles upon a terrible secret that draws them into a violent – and disturbing – confrontation.

⭐ This is vintage Corris. Tight story and writing.
⭐ I really like Peter Corris’ books as they are set in Australia, are very descriptive and keep you interested in the story lines. This book is no exception. Some of the characters were however hard to get close to and I am not sure why. I started the book and found it a little hard to get involved in the story at first, but once I was about 20% of the way through it, I could not stop reading and finished it within a couple of days. If you like detective stories and want an Australian story that you can relate to in the descriptions, locations and believability of the story, this is a book for you to read.
⭐ Peter Corris writes familiar crime fiction in settings we all know. His is a dependable approach, and makes easy pleasurable reading. Lots of interesting characters, good plots, and a hero we can care about. Whenever a new title comes out, I just buy it, secure in the knowledge that it will be a good readThis one isn’t his best, but still pretty satisfyingRock on Peter!! Long live Cliff Hardy
⭐ Corris is a great author of crimes set in Australia. His central character is laconic and Corris describes the Aussie way very well.
⭐ It was and interesting book but not grabbing,an easy read but missing something,it filled pages with unnecessary detail and not enough action
⭐ Can’t beat a Cliff Hardy story
⭐ Australia’s marathon murder mystery writer, Peter Corris writes a rollicking good yarn every time
⭐ I have read many of the “Cliff Hardy” series books and I think this is the best yet.
⭐ A great read
⭐ Corris is a consistent writer and just doesn’t disappoint.
