⭐ First let me say, I have all of the books in this series, and all in the other series as well. That said, this author is no longer on the top of my “must have” books. Lately, her books are getting darker and darker and her heroes more abusive and controlling. The use of repetition to pad the word count is becoming boring. The vulgar and abusive sex scenes are becoming distasteful. Don’t misunderstand…I like sex. I even enjoy reading about occasional “rough” sex. Violence doesn’t even bother me much, as long as it isn’t sadistic, and happens to the bad guys.I resent reading about victims being further bullied and victimized by the alleged “good” guys. I didn’t think 50 shades of grey was “all that”, and it doesn’t become more palatable by being justified as necessary to fulfill an alpha male. Bluntly speaking,Trap Dawkins is a jerk! I went from being interested in him to not caring for him. And the more I read about him, the less I liked him… And the more I read about Cayenne, the more I wished she had bonded with a real man, not a controlling jerk who would probably keep her a victim the rest of her life. I actually had to scan through the sex scenes in the latter part of the book, as reading them just pissed me off! It did have a decent ending, which will probably keep me coming back for the next book…which I will probably get from the library…

⭐ I used to really like this series. it was fun, sexy and action packed. The last few books CFeehan’s main guy characters really don’t like women. The guys are just not likable AT ALL. And the woman they fall for is basically the exception to the rule, cause all women are awful. YIKES! The female characters are now having to deal with the guys acting like complete jerks. Saying and doing the most mean spirited things. And the female characters make excuses for the guys cause they had a rough start to life. There are always promises to be better, but more and more moments of gross behavior. Listen, if you let a guy (or gal, or anyone!) treat you like crap he won’t stop, ever. Cause he knows he can get away with it. I can’t read this series anymore. I keep hoping it’ll get better. That the actual story of the Ghostwalkers with move forward, be interesting again, but it doesn’t, it just gets worse. I’m done.

⭐ Most people have already covered it. Feehan’s alpha male obsession has crossed the line from sexy to flat out abusive. Things started going downhill with Wyatt, and now Trap is even worse. The females are doormats. Even non confrontational ones like Lily or Tansy would stand up for themselves, Pepper and Cayenne don’t do that at all. The overall story about Whitney used to be interesting, now it’s treated like barely an afterthought, and even then it’s just an excuse to send teams to try to kill the main character. I don’t know where Feehan lost her way, but I’m absolutely done. These books aren’t romance anymore, they’re a how to guide on being mentally and emotionally abusive. It’s sick Feehan.

⭐ I have read all of Ms. Feehan’s Carpathian series and this, her Ghostwalker series. Up until now, the books in the Ghostwalker series have been truly captivating and intriguing. I am not a prude, I prefer more explicit sexual content in my romance novels, but I rarely read erotica because it lacks the romance elements IMHO. This book was straight up erotica, with some I love you’s thrown in for good measure. I wasn’t feeling it. I NEVER envisioned that I would ever say this, but I simply had to skip or skim over a great deal of the pages upon pages of the sexual escapades of Trap & Cayenne. Oh, there was some fighting the bad guys thrown in to keep things interesting.Trap’s character was soooooo disappointing, and his he-man, you must give it to me whenever, however and wherever I want it, struck a sour chord with me. I prefer Alpha male characters in 95% of my romance novels, but I began to detest Trap, notwithstanding the tragedies of his childhood. This side of Trap did not jibe with his genius persona nor his Mr. Ice persona that was established in a previous book. Cayenne was also a disappointment. You have this lethal kick-a** heroine, who, before my eyes just metamorphosed into a submissive, milk-toast person I didn’t recognize.Last, there was a great deal of repetitious dialogue and really unnecessary sections that held no interest, i.e., cooking lessons. This story was so incongruous to me. I truly cannot recommend this book. Perhaps the future Ghostwalker books will go back to the way they were.

⭐ This book’s main problem is the focus on having too many “love” scenes and too little plot. It’s secondary problem is that the male hero, Trap, is completely and sociopathically unlikeable. Poor Cayenne is disrespected and treated poorly the entire book and then not knowing any better having been treated horribly her own life, makes excuses for him, and worst of all he never even apologizes. Oh to have the patience of Cayenne (not Job, CAYENNE!!!) The 3rd problem is that Christine Feehan failed to find any chemistry between these two characters beyond sex. Whilst Poor Cayenne does her utmost to try to understand Trap, he can’t be bothered to try to do the same. What could have been an interesting story incorporating Evil Violet (remember her? the Senator’s wife), Trap’s wicked uncles, and the evil super soldiers trying to get at the women, is instead basically erotica with emotionless sex scene after sex scene. I don’t mind a hotter read but in this book it got in to way of the plot, it’s like “we get it, they have a strong sex drive and it’s the only thing going for their relationship!” There was opportunity for Christine Feehan to explore the theme of the redeeming power of love which she usually executes so well, but she doesn’t. We can maybe see how finding Cayenne makes Trap better, but we don’t. The hero experiences no growth in the course of the story except when we’re told (not shown) by the other characters.Cayenne is the one bright point of this book. Super likeable, strong and able to take care of herself. In spite of Trap’s general unpleasantness, she tries to stay strong and stay her own person and tell him off but I feel like she was done a great disservice in the way she was portrayed. This book gets an extra star from me only because of her. We also learned a bit more about Malachai (now why couldn’t Cayenne have been paired with him) and Gino, both of whom I’m now more interested in learning about. Who I’d be happy NEVER hearing about again, is Trap. It was also nice to see cameos of old friends, Ryland, Joe, and a little of Flame and Gator. It’s very hard for me to believe Christine Feehan is the one writing these books still. Her earlier works were excellent dealing with the redeeming power of love for a broken hero and heroine. Her more recent books are night and day from that. It’s like maybe the pressure to keep up with many series and churn them out fast every year has made her more about filling pages (with endless hardcore love scenes) to get her page count up. I will keep reading these books because I’m invested in the characters and series and I will keep hoping for the old Christine Feehan to come back.

⭐ The Ghostwalker series is still an interesting read but the last two books have shown some significant changes in plotline. Whereas the previous ten books focused on the action, teambuilding, and the extraordinary enhancements of the men and women that make up the Ghostwalker world, Spider Game continues the ick factor of splicing human DNA with poisonous and venomous elements such as reptile and spiders. The saving factor in Spider Game was is how well-written and relatable Cayenne is portrayed as a vulnerable yet very self-sufficient and sympathetic heroine who finds herself all alone in the world after years living in a cell. Watching Cayenne try to makes sense of a strange new world was both heart-breaking and encouraging, I was rooting for this courageous young woman the whole book. The male lead, Trap Dawson, was not so impressive. In the previous book Trap promised to be an intriguing character, known as the Ice Man with a very tragic childhood, I thought of him then as a sort of lone savant who would awaken to his humanity once he recognized Cayenne as his other half. Trap instead turned out to be a sometimes insufferable, controlling bore. At least we learned more of why Wyatt’s character did a 180 turn from adorable younger brother of the awesome Gator…he was terribly betrayed by a woman he put on a petal and idolized. Trap’s behavior was questionable as he raged and seethed with unfounded jealousy. My favorite scene was the one with sans Trap, it was with Nonny, Cayenne, and Pepper in Nonny’s kitchen. Seeing Nonny, taking Cayenne into her loving presence and teaching two motherless, throw away young women to prepare and cook paella, was such a rich and poignant moment. Also, the brief glimpses/references of beloved previous characters as Ryland, Kaden, Gator, and Flame was a welcome balm. The added tension with seeing Violet and her nefarious machinations to pit the noble Ghostwalkers against Whitney in her plot to gain power and the Vice Presidency promises to be a return to the intrigue that makes the Ghostwalker world such a fascinating read. This series has not been that focused on the main plot since Samurai Game and I hope the next book will pick up with the thread of teambuilding and confronting Whitney and Violet..

⭐ I don’t know if it’s just me or what but Christine Feehan’s books have been on a downhill slide for quite a while now. I expected a really great book after reading about Trap and Cayenne in the preceding books. In this book, Trap has lost his legendary intelligence. He is not depicted as a man who could earn patents and make millions of dollars through sheer genius. He just acts stupid. In the previous books, Cayenne is tough as nails and defeated 5 or more teams of Whitney’s enhanced men without having even a knife on her. Now she is a scared, sniveling, submissive child instead of a warrior. And of course, all the sex. So little plot, and so much disappointment. I think Feehan should quit trying to publish as many books as she can in a year. Quality over quantity.

⭐ This series has always been one of my favourites, always a pre order and I had first contacted the author after waiting so long for Samauri Game to come out and my dissatisfaction with the ending. It was great to see Viper & Spider Game being released so quickly after the previous long wait but I guess there is a reason for this. Viper Game was not that good for many reasons but it was miles above how I felt after reading Spider Game. Spider Game had hardly any story or very little about the Ghostwalkers series. There were probably 50 quality pages of content and the rest were just graphic sex and the same thing over again and again. Fortunately it’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that I was so ticked off about the waste of my time and money. I wouldn’t recommend anyone read this book. Not as a stand alone and especially not as part of this once great series.

⭐ Christine Feehan is my absolute favorite author. That being said, Spider Game was a huge disappointment. This book was so far off the usual compelling plot her books are known for that I could not help but be disappointed. Her main “manly male” came off as an abusive partner, and I never felt the “connection” her couples are so famous for. This story had huge potential (one I had really looked forward to), but it turned into the proverbial bad hair day from page one. Christine, I love your work and your stories provide a relaxing outlet for me. However, if Spider Game was the first book authored by you that I read, I would not ever purchase another. Fortunately, I have MANY of your prior books and enjoy each of them enough that I have read them more than once; I definitely will not give up on you. Until this your books have been amazing stories with awesome plots, characters that have the kind if love relationship we all wish were possible, and the ability to seamlessly blend those into page turning thrills. I look forward to your next book.

⭐ Once again Christine Feehan has showed her mastery of story telling. In this 12th story in the Ghostwalker series, she presents us with two unforgettable characters: Trap Dawkins, multi-millionaire scientist and member of Team Four; and Cayenne, an artifically created cross between an arachnid and a human. Trap frees her from captivity in one of Peter Whitney’s laboratory/prisons, and they become as essential to each other as Whitney had planned.Along the way we learn about Trap’s interactions with his teammattes, especially Wyatt Fotenot, who we met in an ealier novel in the series. Wyatt and Trap are both top researchers whose work together may oneday lead to a cure for cancer. But as Trap’s life becomes entangled with Cayenne’s, we see some of his flaws that she will help him with, just as he is helping her acclimate to life outside of the cocoons that she weaves for herself, and ultimately for them both.As this is a romace novel, there is a lot of sex between Trap and Cayenne. But that only adds to the evolution of their attacchment and, eventually, love for one another. If you want a single good read, Spider Game will do it for you. If you are intrigued by the idea of the Ghostwalkers, then I recommend you read all of the stories. in the series to date. And you will enjoy just this story or all twelve. Indulge yourselves.
