Description

Star Strauss has always been a fighter. From the time she was born prematurely to her life on the road as a circus performer, she has never let her small stature keep her from achieving her dreams. She is one of the best aerial performers in the world. Well, Earth anyway. It turns out there is more than one inhabited world, and Star soon finds herself on a planet where every creature seems to tower over her.

Jazin Ja Kel Coradon is the third son of the ruling House of Kassis. He is a fierce warrior who specializes in communication, security, and weapons systems. This knowledge has increased the effectiveness of the Kassisan defenses against a new group of rebels who threaten their very existence.

His life changes when he meets a tiny creature who is unlike anything he has ever seen. She is petite, seemingly delicate, and beautiful. The problem is she is also the strongest, most stubborn female he has ever met. If he could just get her to stay in the nice, safe bubble he has created for her, his life would be so much simpler!

Star isn’t the only one in danger however, and when Jazin is kidnapped, Star’s unconventional skills will come in handy. The stubborn Kassisan is about to find out that he has a partner who can stand tall with him against their enemies.

Internationally acclaimed S.E. Smith presents a new action-packed story full of romance and adventure. Brimming with her signature humor, vivid scenes, and beloved characters, this book is sure to be another fan favorite!

From the Inside Flap “Either an apparition with glowing amber eyes just walked into my cell or the Gods have sent me a savior,” a hoarse whisper sounded in the darkness.Jarmen grinned and lifted the cloak from his head. His dark amber eyes glowed with an eerie light in the darkness. “Neither, my friend. Just a monster to keep you company.”Jazin’s dry chuckle hurt so much he drew in a breath until the pain faded. “Don’t make me laugh, Jar. It hurts too damn much.”Jarmen moved silently closer to where Jazin was sitting up against the back wall. He held out a small container of water and a power vitamin. He turned and sank down on the cold floor next to his friend. He didn’t say anything for several minutes while Jazin drank the water and took the small capsule.”So, what’s the plan? How did you know where I was?” Jazin asked in a slightly stronger voice. “And do you have any more pain patches? I hurt so bad I can hardly think.”

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Vivid action sequences increased the intensity and really brought forward the suspense of the story. The story was fast paced from cover to cover with new plot twists around every corner. But the novel was so much more than simply blowing things up. Emotions and real life are prominent throughout. World building is also fundamentally built into the story. I enjoyed the way that the religion of Kassis and the mythology behind it was developed. The extra insight into the world and how it works made it all the more real to me.Star is such a little spitfire. She is such a vibrant character who definitely shines as she shows her true worth and mettle. I loved getting to know her. Seeing Jazin’s thoughts and emotions really gave me insight as to how Kassisan males think and the culture at large. The multifaceted development of his character had me falling in love with him from the first time he stuck his foot in his mouth. The romance between these two was intensely sensual. I love how they both had to work at the relationship, that it wasn’t always easy, yet it was always rewarding.Smith has once again created a story that I couldn’t put down set in a world I don’t simply want to read about, but want to move to. This was an unforgettable story about so much more than simple romance.

⭐ I read River’s Run and enjoyed it for the most part, so was looking forward to Star’s story. It started out quite good with lots of action and I was glad the author didn’t rehash the plot as she did in the Dragon Lord series. Star was very feisty, but sometimes I think both she and the Kassian people expected more out of her than she should have been capable of. Seriously, she is a circus performer (high wire) but is willing and able to kill seasoned warriors? At least with River, she had extensive skill with knives. It just became to unbelievable, then downright silly when she was kidnapped and taken aboard the freighter by inept Frenchmen. Really?? I also wish the men would have been stronger. They too are seasoned warriors who took shit from no one, yet these three women ran circles around them. IT just didn’t seem plausible. I think I will skip Jo’s story, as the idea of an entire circus traveling to the Kassian world seems downright ridiculous and from the bit at the end of Star’s story, that might come to pass. I enjoy series, but the later ones have to be as good as the first to keep my interest.

⭐ Continuing where River’s Run left off, we are reintroduced to Star Strauss and Jazin Ja Kel Coradon’s love story. A talented aerialist, Star learns how to function and trust in this new world in which she finds herself after she, her sister Jo, and friend River are captured by aliens. Dealing with her own insecurities due to a past traumatic experience and the new alien in her life is difficult enough to figure out without falling in love at the same time. Tragedy strikes while Jazin is on a trip to another planet, his ship is destroyed and he is announced dead. Devastated, Star retreats into herself. When a new friend has a vision that Jazin is still alive but had been taken prisoner on another planet, Star finds the will to survive if only with the hope that Jazin can be rescued. Hope for the impossible drives her to find him and along side her new alien friends, she goes on a mission to rescue Jazin by using the skills she posses though years of training to save the man she loves. Running out of time, the threat of their love story ending in tragedy is an overwhelming reality. Can she reach him in time before he is truly gone?Pros:Once again I have too many positive things to say about this story. Star is adorable. She is the younger sister to Jo and has her own little sister personality that I love.A lot of their struggles were mentioned in River’s Run so in this book they figure out how to overcome her insecurities and deal with her reality much faster than without the first book in the series. I liked that the author chose to only give a short overview of what we have missed instead of the tedious retelling from another perspective that I have read from other authors. Once again we see a further development of the characters and even of the new world Star finds herself.Cons:Even though I mentioned above that there was further character development I would still liked to have seen more. Maybe because I felt attached to the characters and I wanted to get to know them better. Also it might be the sadist in me, but I would have liked to have read more about when Star thought Jazin had died. I almost forgot that part, it passed by so fast.Soon I will be reviewing book 3 in the series: Jo’s Journey.Excerpt:“Do you trust me?” He whispered.Star’s eyes flew open at the intense question. He was asking her for total surrender. He was asking her to give herself to him totally, without restraint, without question, wholly. For a moment fear rose to choke her. What if he just used her and tossed her aside? What if she was making a mistake? Could she trust him completely? Could she give him everything, including her heart? She stared up into his dark eyes, searching and knew without a doubt what the answer was….“Yes,” she said never breaking her gaze from his. “Yes, I trust you.”Jazin released the breath he had been holding and smoothed the tangle of blond hair back from her face with a trembling hand. He swore silently that he would never give her an opportunity to regret her decision.Another Excerpt:“Star,” Jazin muttered in a small, confused voice.Star could see Jazin fighting for sanity. For just a brief second, she saw his eyes clear and concern and love shine through the medicine coursing through his system. She lifted her hand and gently touched his cheek, a small smile of understanding curved her lips.“You are safe now,” she whispered right before the glaze clouded his eyes again.Jazin reached out and gripped Star by the waist, raising her up until her face was even with his. He crushed his lips against hers in a dark, possessive kiss that burned with barely suppressed desire and violence.

⭐ This is a fun story, full of adventures. Star, a trapeze artist from the circus, is claimed and loved by Jazin, youngest Lord of Kassis brother. There are a great number of plot twists, kidnappings, rescues, danger, excitement, and meeting strange and unusual new friends. In the end, there is a circus on Kassis filled with humans of all types as well as an intimidating blue ruler of a newly formed ally planet, a mysterious man/cyborg, and a possible baby on the way – oh, and clowns.

⭐ When Star is hurt during the attack that tried to kill the members of the ruling house of Kassis, Madas Tal Mod, mate of the leader of the Ternants, help her get to medical where she is treated. Jazin, third son of the house of Kassis is Star’s mate and he gets crazy when he thinks that he is going to lose her. When Star gets better, Jazin goes on a mission and gets killed. Or so they all think.Madas has a dream where she sees Jazin being held hostage by the bad guys and tells Star that he needs her to go rescue him. After he is rescued and save in his ship, Star is kidnapped but is saved by 2 Frenchmen. Follow this two lovebirds along in their adventures to survive to love another day.

⭐ River, Star, and Jo were abducted by aliens. Each girl if finding out that their abductors are their soul mates who want nothing more than to claim their fragile Earth mates and keep them safe and protected in the lap of luxury for the rest of their livesThis is book 2 featuring the petite yet big hearted Star. Being smaller than most people she has learned to stand up for herself and disprove those who think that small means fragile, demure, and/or passive. Even if it takes saving her big bad mate Jazim to prove it.If it were possible to give this book ten stars I would. It’s a contemporary sci fi humorous adventure book that includes an erotic romance between Star and Jazim (thanks again Amazon for taking out tags). It has aliens who are big & bad with alpha personalities who find their mates and want to protect and lap all the creature comforts that they can so the girls know they are loved yet are not put into danger. In this book though the alien needs to be rescued as HE is kidnapped and about to die.Along the way Star makes new friends includes a reptilian female Madas (who I absolutely love to pieces), Gril (I so want to see him taken down a notch or two), Jarmen (stole my heart and affection), Armet, and Dakar. Each personality adds a new dimension to this book that gives life to this fictional world the author has created. There are other characters who breath life into this story but I’ll refrain from mentioning them as you’d loose the fun and surprises if I listed them. Viva Le France!!!!!wonderful fantasy sci fi read that has some erotic scenes that are downright steamy but made me a fan because of it’s barbarian mentality alpha alien who get taken down by one kick ass Earth female.

⭐ Star’s Storm. .. I loved the first book River’s Run (Lords of Kassis: Book 1) and of all the books S.E. Smith’s written, River’s Run would be the one I’d recommend. It’s funny, well presented, and a light read. Star’s Storm goes into detail on Jarim and Star’s relationship and how outside forces impact their life together and their world.SPOILERS:The three girls (River, Jo, and Star) weren’t in each other’s pockets in this book. Instead, secondary characters are more fleshed out and take their place. Star is a warm touchie feeling type lady and while she wants to please her mate she’s feeling her way in the relationship. She wants to please Jazin but doesn’t want to be smothered in protection. We see a maturity and confidence bloom in Star as she deepens her friendship with Madas. We see the loyalty of Jazim’s armsmen extended to Star as she works with them and proves herself. Relationships are deepened between Madas and her mate Gil as well as the main leads Star and Jazin.I appreciate the cliff hanger being in the middle of the book and solved. Yes! Jazin is captured AND rescued. Yeah! We don’t have to wait on another book to find out where, why, how and when . ..There was an incomplete story line dealing with saving Ristéard’s planet, the linking prophecy, and Roald & Ricki’s meeting. Some parts of that bothered me. Like how Ristéard could leave his planet and have his title when he returned. From the way he ruled and his rule being challenged made me think he was a guy that could never leave. That if he did some unsurper would try to steal his throne. He didn’t believe the prophecy yet was questioning it enough to leave and I did wonder about his thought process to make that drastic move. Not just to ensure the crystals were bought but to check out the Earthlings.I wondered why the crystal plant was being sabotaged. I assume it was because Ristéard didn’t come through on the deal of getting rid the Lords of Kassis. That evil ex-councilman was probably behind it. . . And while he is still behind the scenes causing havoc and trouble. .. And he’s still not caught, that hanging thread is ok because we all know he’ll get caught. As time passes Kassis is making more alliances against him.I enjoyed the light hearted scene with the Frenchmen. Star is terrified and alone, that whole situation was dire yet it turned out to be the brightest part of the book. Nice touch.I did wonder about the logistics of the smex scene in the bathroom . .. after she was turned around. Despite her being limber she was still tied up and her feet barely touching the ground. Turn around and face the wall — She couldn’t brace herself. While he was constantly brutal to her. . . As her first lover. .. She still accepted everything he did. Yup, I had problems with that passive submission of hers.I hope the ongoing situation with Ristéard Roald & Ricki will continue into Jo’s book. There was just enough of a teaser to expect that.Overall I enjoyed the book. It dragged a bit in places and the summary of the previous book was ok. Not sure if it was needed but the reminder worked. Anyway, a good read overall for those that read River’s Run. — Dan’s Wife

⭐ I enjoyed this book; just when it became formulaic another twist was thrown in. Smith laid down a lot of hints about the next book in the story Jo’s Journey. There is also a possible spinoff with Ricki and the Grand Ruler getting together. Once again the relationship between the women provides an interesting counterpoint to the romantic tale. Instead of River, Jo, and Storm forming the three musketeers Star is joined by the ailen Mandos. The dynamic duo support one another to mount a rescue of Storm’s mate. This story doesn’t include as much of the traditional circus element as the first. However, I think there is more practical application of those type of skills to real world situations such as Star taking out two Captain of the Guards in a training session. This is a quick read with the same villian from River’s Run. There are a lot of references to the first novel in the series, but Star’s Storm can be read as a stand alone novel. Smith provided enough backstory that I was able to recall River’s Run without re-reading it.There is a slight bondage element involving restraint during sex. So if you are into that type of thing you won’t be disappointed. If you aren’t you won’t have to wade through whips, chains, and the dark dungeon tango.I’d recommend giving the first two novels in the series a shot. I personally can’t wait to see what havoc the circus coming to town will cause in Jo’s Journey!

⭐ I cannot stress enough how wild and funny this book was. I couldn’t stop laughing during certain scenes. I won’t ruin any of the plot, but now I’m wondering what role Earth plays in this storyline because Ms. Smith has set up a doozy of a backstory. Humans coming to rescue the Kassisans over two millennia ago. Where did they get the technology, much less the knowledge of how to use it to get to the Kassisans’ home World? I know we’ll see Jo and Manota’s journey to Earth in the next book, as well as Ricki and Risteald’s story after that, and I can only hope that the backstory that was already introduced will be expanded at the same time. I can’t wait to find out what comes next!

⭐ Another fun sci-fi adventure romance by S. E. Smith. If I had to compare I would say I liked the first one(Rivers Run)a little better, but not by much.Star is a circus performer abducted from earth along with her older sister and best friend. They manage to foil their captors and save the lives of a group of warriors ambushed and imprisoned on the same ship. The warriors are awed by the three alien females and wish to claim and protect them, but its the warriors who need protection and an ancient prophecy convinces the Kassian warriors that the tiny females are even more than they seem.Star and Jazin are a good fit you feel the emotional connection especially when she has to break her warrior out of prison. The steamy scenes are very descriptive and hot. There is a lot of action and some LOL moments mixed in, it was a good read and worth the money. Hope you enjoy!
