⭐The book by Kubo et al. is unanimously good. The problem with this book being sold by Amazon is that it is yet another scam named “digital reprint on demand”. You will pay 60 bucks for a book and will receive nothing more than a faded xerox copy in acid-prone paper glued between magazine-quality covers. Avoid. Or print a copy yourself! You will achieve a much better quality by 1/3 of the price. I am returning my copy. I am tired of being scammed by these editorial houses, that clearly adopted a “take their money over the internet and run!” attitude.

⭐This is a fantastic statistical mechanics book. Light on the words, heavy on the problems, and good explanations.

⭐This book is simply awesome. The text is quick and to the point, does not waste your time with pointless derivations, and ALL THE PROBLEMS HAVE SOLUTIONS.I’m currently taking graduate statistical mechanics, we use the Pathria book, which assumes way too much background, and the text is little help for the problems.I’ve found that a large number of Pathria problems are solved in Kubo.If you want to do well on exams, buy this book, and study the problems!

⭐Many programs have Stat Mech as one of their weakest links. This was the case in my undergrad and grad preparation. So, I found a copy of Kubo in the library, and it really helped out.There’s a very brief introduction to topics (very weak, a good graduate book would be better), and then the book plows into many problems ranging from gases being absorbed into a surface to quantum mechanical situations.There are solutions, and there’s enough in the steps so you can figure out how he did the solution (assuming you’re pretty well prepared for the math portion of the PhD comprehensive exam). This really helped, since some form of the one’s in Kubo’s book were on the exam!Overall, this is sort of an unknown ‘solution’ book. A godsend for those of us lacking the ‘intuition’ of Stat Mech derivations.

⭐I can’t understand why are they doing this with these classical texts. The book’s contents are excellent; the problem is with the printing quality: there are uncountable places where, for example, the quotient lines where not correctly displayed. For the price of these books this is unacceptable!
