User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I purchased this book because the description stated that it contained all 4 books including Rage. What a disappointment to receive the book and open it to find that it includes only 3 of the 4 books… no Rage! If you are looking to complete your stephen king collection, avoid this copy! Incredibly frustrated buyer!
⭐The main reason I bought this book was that the description said that it included the story “Rage”. I was dying to read that, and the other three stories would be a bonus. Well, what a major disappointment to receive the book and find that “Rage” is not included. There are three stories, not four, and I will be returning this book due to false advertising. Very, very disappointed.
⭐The description is deliberately misleading. This printing DOES NOT contain the novella Rage. Update your description.
⭐The book rage is not featured in this ensemble of Richard Bachman work. I will personally notify Amazon and let them know of fraud. Your narrative describing the contents of the book is false. Buyer beware!!!
⭐Buyer beware. This edition does NOT have “Rage” in it. There was no indication of this on the product description that I saw. I knew Stephen King had not wanted to have this included in future editions of the book but it was never specified as to what edition did and did not have the story in it. I was hoping this was one that still included it but no such luck. The book itself does not suffer greatly from the loss of this underwhelming tale. It would still be nice to know that it’s not in the tome though. For those curious enough to know that it was initially part of the collection and who would want to read this controversial short story, you’ll have to seek out an earlier edition of the book.
⭐The item was stated to be in very good condition, but my goodness it is collectible condition! This book seems like it has never even been read, smells brand new, and is just overall amazing! I really like the fact that this edition has an introduction about why King wrote as Bachman. My expectations have been blown out of the water! Also, Dianne at Hammerbooks was extremely courteous and helpful when there was issues with USPS to make sure I received my book! Great customer service and shipped with tremendous care! The book itself has such a tight binding it appears to never have been read, pages are crisp and clean, the cover is super solid, and the dust jacket is immaculate! Fantastic shape! I couldn’t be anymore thrilled!
⭐Not as described– this is not all 4 Bachman stories- it is 3 Bachman stories- Rage is out of print, this item description says it includes Rage. Did arrive in perfect condition however. Description needs update.
⭐Why are you reading a review of this book? It’s written by the KING (of American Literature) STEPHEN KING is a national treasure and, officially or not, if someday he happens to pass on…I will recognize that day as a holiday. Keep the Kiddos home from school to celebrate his many accomplishments. A true Master of his Craft.
⭐Running Man and the Walk are perfect novels that I’ve read countless times and I’m very happy to have on my phone now, but I was surprised and dissapointed to see Stephen King has now completely removed Rage from print so it is no longer included in this set. Thankfully I still own a copy but it is disappointing to see a writer self censor due to current events. If that kind of behaviour continues we will truly be living in 1984.
⭐Earlier versions of hard and paper back versions included Rage.Rage was also released as a novel in its own right.Rage featured a story of a mass high school shooting and was subsequently withdrawn from print as a single novel and within the Bachman books.Rage has never appeared in a kindle format. It can only be purchased second hand/used with copies often at high prices. The UK paper back version, published by New English Library in 1987, features all four novels describing the book on the cover as ‘A Monster Quartet’.The novel The Running Man has also been published as a single novel.Rage is considered the best of the four, followed by Running Man, Roadwork and The Long Walk.Rage features Charles Decker, a troubled Maine high school senior. It is a short novel, 149 pages in the 1987 NEL paper back.I enjoyed reading Rage more than similar troubled teenager novels.Better than Catcher in the Rye in my opinion.
⭐This is not ‘The Bachman Books’. Let me say that again – this is NOT ‘The Bachman Books’! The Bachman Books is a collection of four, not three, FOUR stories written by Stephen King under his occasional pseudonym Richard Bachman. For reasons known only to Hodder and Stoughton they have omitted one of the stories, entitled Rage, from this collection and continued to call it ‘The Bachman Books’. This one-star review is for Hodder and Stoughton for a bizzarely incomplete publication. I returned the book to Amazon who were efficient and excellent as always in refunding the cost of the book.
⭐I bought this after reading it 20 ago and losing my copy. I love Stephen King and have nearly all his books, however I am so cross that I ordered this book and it only has 3 of the Bachman Books in this version!! It has The Long Walk, Roadworks and Running Man but I’m so disappointed that it doesn’t have Rage and Thinner.
⭐Firstly, I must have got lucky as I bought this on kindle at £3.99. It was on offer and I snapped it up. A colleague at work, who is a fellow SK fan, recommended it. In hindsight I would have paid full price as they are all great books. It starts with the Long Walk. An interesting book about a militaristic US and a sadistic marathon. Great characters and compelling story. I would have liked a bit more background about how and why the US became this dystopian state with what they call ‘the squads’ who are soldiers that make arrests and executions. Worth a read. Then we have Roadwork. According to SK he wrote it while trying to make sense of his mother’s passing. When it gets going it’s a great thriller about a man who refuses to part with his home which is due for demolition to make way for an expanding city.My favourite by far is Running Man. Forget the film. Arnie is great but his character bears no resemblance to the protagonist in the book. The book is set in the US in 2025. A crime ridden place with savage game shows to entertain the masses. The protagonist enters the Running man to save his family from further poverty. He embarks on a mission to dodge assassin’s who are hunting him down. The book also explores some relevant political issues happening now, such as pollution. A roller coaster ride, fast moving and one of best reads of this year. Shame we lost Bachman to cancer of the pseudonym, but glad we have the genius known as Stephen King.
