The six stories are:WILD SWIMMING by Elodie HarperEAU-DE-ERIC by Manuela SaragosaTHE SPOTS by Paul Bassett DaviesTHE UNPICKING by Michael ButtonLA MORT DE L’AMANT by Stuart JohnstoneTHE BEAR TRAP by Neil HudsonReader beware: the stories will make you think twice before cuddling up to your old soft toy, dipping your toe into the water or counting the spots on a leopard…

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐It’s probably harder to write a short scary story than another kind because once the arc is set, how do you deliver a surprise? A swimmer determined to take a dip in a place she shouldn’t, a bedroom full of nasty toys that unstitch each other, yet another stuffed toy that smells so much like a deceased, hated husband . . . there isn’t much room once such premises have been laid down to do anything but unfurl details that can’t stray far from the starting points. Of the stories in this collection, none is particularly scary, none is distinguished enough to merit hardcover publication (with or without Stephen King’s name as editor). The first is a little creepy in a way that Robert Aickman’s work was creepy, but lacking Aickman’s depth of characterization and cleverness. One is passingly amusing as a satire. Several are well written. But this is a very thin collection that could have fit comfortably into half its space. Finally, did each of the six contributors have to write a preface declaring their admiration for Stephen King? Isn’t anyone embarrassed by this kind of thing?

⭐I gave this 5 stars due to this being a nice collection of very short stories with very powerful endings certainly leaving you wanting more from these story tellers. Bravo! I wish King would find equally talented writers on this side of the pond and give us an equally ghoulish collection!

⭐As with his own writing, Stephen King strikes a chord here by prefacing the stories with his experience reading them. Whenever I read a book, especially if I plan on writing a review, I read everything… the Introduction, Preface, Acknowledgements, Afterwards, and sometimes even the copyright information. Why? Because I find that these extras provide incite or a connection to the writer or editor. Stephen King, in particular, with his acknowledgement to his Constant Reader, creates a personal connection to his reader. Do yourself a favor and don’t skip over King’s Introduction. The stories in this short anthology, along with their authors, are… “Wild Swimming” by Elodie Harper “Eau-De-Eric” by Manuela Saragosa “The Spots” by Paul Bassett Davies “The Unpicking” by Michael Button “La Mort De L’amant” by Stuart Johnstone “The Bear Trap” by Neil HudsonReviewing an anthology presents the unique problem of not retelling the story in a way that longer forms do not. I am loathe to writing spoilers, no matter how innocuous, because I truly believe the next reader should have the same opportunity of discovery I had. I actually avoid reading blurbs, and only picking out certain words that interest me.Here are six stories that the “king” of horror felt deserved publication and his personal endorsement. I am in agreement with Stephen King that “Wild Swimming” is the best of the six. There is one that was a fun read, but I found it too obscure for my taste. The main point of this little anthology seems to be the introduction of six British authors to an American audience. We all know that Constant Reader will read anything upon which King has put his stamp of approval. Most difficult for me is the 1 to 5 star rating system. SIX SCARY STORIES is definitely more than a 4 but not quite a five. The law of averages dictates that if it’s more than a four and a half, I have to bump it up.All of King’s readers will find something to their liking here and may just find that new author to follow.

⭐If you like Stephen King you’ll want to read Six Scary Stories. The fact that these were hand picked by Stephen King and the contest was very interesting. He began reading the entries with doubt that he would find one worthy. He certainly didn’t expect six. Each story is different.

⭐The rest are all good stories ! Very good authors, i don’t usually read any one else .but these are very good ..worth the money

⭐Each story was vastly different from the others, but they all had one thing in common – they made my skin crawl. I love to read books by new authors, especially in the horror genre, and I hope to see books from all of these authors soon.

⭐Big let down. The only story I could even finish without skimming to the end was Wild Swimming. All the teddy bear coming to life stories I just find intolerable. I know King is big on the whole “inanimate objects come to life” theme, but please, one or two is enough. So Wild Swimming….. is this seriously a thing? Swimming in a pond is a outdoor professional sport? I grew up in SC so I guess I was an enthusiast of this noble sport and didn’t even know it.At the risk of being criticized, I’m beginning to think only English women must be able to appreciate English women writers. Here’s my impression…….Oh dear, the phone is ringing. I suppose should pick it up, but its probably nosey Ms. Crowningshireham from across the street phoning to see if my cat Snuggles has been rooting around in her petunias again. But then perhaps its (goes through a dozen other scenarios while the phone continues ringing…..).Anyway, I guess King’s endorsement is a big thing for an author but I have to wonder if he even read them. Not scary by a long shot.

⭐I thoroughly enjoyed reading Six Scary Stories, although when I ordered it I had mistakenly thought that it written by Stephen King. Very much written in his style, each of the stories offered an excursion into subtle horror that was in a very real way, rewarding. I recommend this book to any Stephen King FAN.

⭐Amazing thankyou so much

⭐I found these stories disappointing.

⭐Great new writers. Looking forward to novels from them.

⭐Good

⭐I bought this for my wife. She said it was pretty good with the first story being the best of the bunch. She is a Stephen King fan so I bought for her as a secondary gift to another one of his main books. These are not his stories but stories he was involved in judging for a Literary contest. The first story was the winning entry with the others being ‘honourable mention’.
