Description

In his most powerful and provocative novel to date, master storyteller Irving Wallace turns his incomparable talents to the world of sex therapy. Erotically charged, compassionate, and suspenseful, The Celestial Bed explores the way people make love in postsexual-revolution America.

Dr. Arnold Freeberg is a courageous, pioneering sex therapist whose dedication to his patients and the principles of his profession prompt him to step outside the law and utilize the most effective tool of all in combating sexual dysfunctions–sex surrogates. Although sex surrogates are highly trained and supervised professionals who guide, demonstrate, and teach people with low sexual self-esteem how to enjoy intimacy, according to the law in many states they are prostitutes.

Driven out of Arizona, Dr. Freeberg establishes a new clinic in southern California with the help of his most experienced surrogate, beautiful young Gayle Miller, and a new male surrogate, movie-star-handsome Paul Brandon. But where Dr. Freeberg expected to be able to practice in peace, he encounters powerful adversaries–an ambitious district attorney, a power-hungry evangelist, a duplicitous newspaper reporter, and the violently jealous psychotic boyfriend of one of his most needy patients–who would tear down his life’s work, humiliate his patients, and put him and his staff on trial for pandering and prostitution.

In the riveting, swiftly-paced narrative style that made him one of America’s most widely read authors, Irving Wallace takes the reader behind closed doors into the private treatment rooms where sex surrogates lead their patients through the therapeutic exercises designed to bring them to sexual fulfillment. Readers will find themselves drawn into a circle of extraordinary people dedicated to repairing the sexually wounded, and come to understand the sex therapist’s essential piece of wisdom–good lovemaking is first loving yourself and then learning to share that love with another.

⭐ This is a wonderfully written look at sexual surrogacy and how it can benefit various people in therapy.I found it absorbing and certainly one of Irving Wallace’s best books. Whether or not you agree with the use of sexual surrogates, I do believe you’ll learn a great deal about it from this book and become fans of the surrogates and their clients. And, as always, his characters are beautifully created. You’ll feel as though you’ve known them all by the time the book ends and you will be rooting for them!

⭐ Excellent information in a story telling format.

⭐ Always look forward to his books, great plots and easy to read. Can’t put it down until I finish, hang the housework!!

⭐ Exactly as promised.

⭐ The story was interesting and entertaining although it was a little preachy at times. I will be reading more of Irving Wallace.

⭐ Science wants in. The individual and society make the rules. All 3 in this book challenge the morals & rules. The same rules of every generation. Relevant on many levels: be it personal, social and beyond. Explore without having the home-work. A good read that will affect other points-of-view and may change oneself, in all ways. Irving Wallace is a genius insightful writer who tables the finest ‘Thought & Wonder’: appetizers for our minds digestion. Recommended. knowledge in not poison, naivete remains.PS: regardless of subject or time IW serves thought & wonder, forever relevant!

⭐ Iloved the novel!

⭐ The book have a good conditions, came in time and was a excellent price. The lecture is interest and Wallace is a god writer

⭐ This was a story about a sex therapist, Dr. Freeberg and one of his sexual surrogates’, Gayle Miller. After the Doctor is ran out of Arizona with threats of charges of pandering and prostitution, he moves his family and his practice to Southern California where he has to defend his beliefs once again. While I did not consider this to be a love story, I did enjoy the romance between Gayle and Paul Brandon, who also worked as a sexual surrogate in Dr. Freeberg’s office. The people that this couple try to help could also cause the destruction of Dr. Freeberg’s practice. If the author was looking for a new title of this book he could have easily called it “A GUIDE TO SEXUAL FULFILMENT”, because it was full of intimate instructions on reaching sexual satisfaction. Overall it was a very good book that was well worth the time spent reading it.

⭐ For mature audiences only. Because being a Sex Surrogate is a serious business.A frank novel about a radical treatment for sexual dysfunction– about 15 years off-trend, but it’s Irving Wallace, and he makes his own rules! The sexually mature sex surrogates and their equally sexually mature supervising doctor help the sexually crippled (Wallace’s words, not mine) to overcome their problems through sexercising. Yes, sexercising, with personal sex trainers! Your genitals may mature as a result of reading such heady prose.
