Description

Inspired by Richard Matheson’s classic “Duel,” “Throttle,” by Joe Hill and Stephen King, is a duel of a different kind, pitting a faceless trucker against a tribe of motorcycle outlaws in the simmering Nevada desert. Their battle is fought out on twenty miles of the most lonely road in the country, a place where the only thing worse than not knowing what you’re up against, is slowing down . . .

⭐THROTTLE by Joe Hill and Stephen King is a thrilling short about bikers being run down by a semi truck. The bikers are returning from the scene of a brutal murder, and they are divided on what their next move will be.As they continue on their journey, a familiar truck begins eliminating their numbers. As they struggle to stay ahead of certain death, father and son must overcome their differences to help one another.Towards the end, the father discovers the reason the trucker went on his rampage, which leads to a final confrontation with his son.Great action story.

⭐Great story. I don’t understand what some of the other reviewers were complaining about. Too much gore and profanity – did they just start reading King? They could tell which paragraph was written by which author – come on. Really? You aren’t reading, you’re analyzing and looking for problems. It’s not a book, just a story – yep, it’s a Kindle Single, with the number of pages listed directly under the price.I thought it was an excellent collaboration between father and son. It was well-written and actually taught a good lesson on parenting.

⭐The Tribe is a motorcycle club heading home after committing a gruesome double homicide. The members are split about whether to head back to Las Vegas or to seek out another victim who they think needs a visit to recover their money. While stopping outside a roadside diner and having a heated discussion, they are overheard by a gas tanker driver. What follows is an action filled story and battle of apparent road rage and revenge……I almost didn’t buy this book because it is a very short story (about 47 pages) but I am so glad I did. This story is one of the best short stories I have read in a long time. The writing style is simply outstanding and graphic both in the ghastly details of the murders and the road battle but also in the description of the events and area in which the action takes place. It is a story of troubled men taking out their anger and vengeance on each other in an all consuming rage. The book is also magnificently illustrated. I reviewed it on an iPad 3 and also the Kindle Fire and the graphics are beautifully done and really pop out of the screen. The illustrations were a very nice touch and add to the story’s mental presentation to the reader. It was not overdone and it is an addition that we should see in other books sold for digital tablets to enhance the reading experience! This book is a brilliant collaboration between the father and son team of Stephen King and Joe Hill. It is easy to see Joe’s contribution to the writing as the graphic descriptions and story line simply feels polished and perfectly done. I hope this team will produce more cooperative books of the same quality as I am hooked by the results of reading this story.I strongly recommend it as a very good book to read. It does contain graphic violence and language but that is to be expected in such a tale. I love the show “Sons of Anarchy” and I have seen every episode. This book reads like a storyline right out of the series. If you like that show you will not be disappointed!

⭐Joe Hill and Stephen King are two of my favorite fictional authors and Steven Spielberg’s movie Duel is a classic so when I found this book I immediately bought it. This is essentially a short story (now called a Kindle Single) so those expecting a full length novel will be disappointed and I do think that the actual story would have benefitted from a little bit more length but as is it’s still a fun read. Also, I’m slowly becoming a fan of graphic novels and this book has some nice artistic pieces added to it that I definitely thought enhanced the experience of the read. All in all I think anyone who loves Joe Hill, Stephen King, or the movie Duel will absolutely enjoy this.

⭐This short story is well-crafted in the clean style of King’s other pieces of work, even if there is a slightly different feel to it, most likely from the input of his son, Joe Hill. Regardless, it reads and flows well. This story is a salute to Richard Matheson’s “Duel,” with many of the same literary devices being used. In itself, it is a story of the “Tribe,” a mostly aging motorcycle gang, and an anonymous truck driver. The Tribe had pulled into a diner parking lot after returning from a meth lab where things had gone pretty wrong, and the truck driver parked there may or may not have overheard what had transpired. After the Tribe ate, they got back on the road only to have the truck driver show up and start his assault on the gang.No one in this story is a “good guy.” The Tribe’s members are criminals, and they have done some horrific things. There is conflict between the members themselves. And the truck driver is really only an arm with “Death Before Dishonor” tattooed on it, hanging out the open window. The prose is crisp and direct, the action well-described. Characterization does not suffer as it sometimes does in other short stories.I did have two issues with the story, one major and one minor. The minor one is a pet peeve of mine. A grenade pin really cannot be readily pulled out with a person’s teeth. This is pure Hollywood. The major issue is the fact that a Peterbuilt truck can overtake large motorcycles. In “Duel,” the car being driven was a Plymouth Valiant, so yes, it was conceivable that that story’s Peterbuilt could do what it did. But in “Throttle,” I am not sure any truck could really not only keep up, but track down powerful bikes. I realize that the truck had to be able to do this for the story to work, but it still bothered me.Overall, I think this was a fine read, and a fitting salute to Matheson’s short story. I recommend it.

⭐A short story, written by father and son – Stephen King and Joe Hill.THROTTLE is about a motorcycle gang: The Tribe. The Tribe is on the road again, after the meth labor has gone up in flames, there is nothing else to do than drive. But there was not only the meth labor burning, also one of the members of the bikers committed a slaughter – he killed a girl, even 17 years old, because she wanted to shoot him. After this the biker mates are in different mood – but on the road heading for Show Low to get some money. On their trip, they pass a big chrome shining 18 wheeler truck on the road. But some time later the overtake of the truck turns out as a bad idea…THROTTLE turns out as a nice short story of hate, revenge, trust, friendship and honor. If you like Joe Hill and if you like Stephen King, for its low price THROTTLE is absolutely worth it to be read.

⭐DNFDont get me wrong. This has potential, and if you typically enjoy motorcycle romps ala Sons of Anarchy, this may be up your alley. I just couldnt find enjoyment in the story. Found it sluggish and disconnected from emotion. As a side note – for normal King and Hill fans – I found no trace of anything paranormal up to where I read.Tough break.
