User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I did not know I was purchasing a very old, used book. I had to tape the spine because it was falling apart. However, I love the stories, so that makes up for the condition of the book. Asimov’s mysteries are fun to read and you have to love the Union Club characters he created.
⭐Interesting read
⭐I have read almost all of Asimov’s work including the realm of numbers and the one on black holes, years & years ago. The man was incredibly diverse & entertaining. And soooo humble; according to him. Love his work, need I say more.
⭐Classic short mysteries. The Black Widowers were a bit more fun, but I recommend this wee volume for anyone in a waiting room. Too bad it’s not available in kindle form.
⭐This is a delightful collection of very short mysteries. Each story is about 6 pages long. A group of 3 friends discuss a topic, a slant on it arises, a fourth one, Griswold, tells a mystery associated to it, chellenges them to solve it, which they fail to do, and then explains it to them. And there are 30 of these here! To be sure, they are of a light nature, which is understandable due to their length, but make for a quick, entertaining read.
⭐loved it
⭐Isaac Asimov is know for his SciFi writing but his mysteries are just as good. These are short stories dealing with everyday problems from the guests of the Union Club
⭐Item arrived on time and as described.
⭐I have been collecting & reading Asimov books for many decades and this is the first one to disappoint me. I understand it is a collection of monthly articles for an American magazine so I understand that they are not written for the international market. But so were many of his short stories and they are far more readable. The solutions are contrived, difficult to the part of becoming idiotic, more like the far-fetched tales of the Union Club. Only one was so obvious I got it well before the ending, and this is only because of a similar story in the Black Widows books (a much better series of tales). The main character, Griswold, has a more than passing resemblance to Bitternut from Azazel in my opinion. Being out of print it came at a premium price. Still, one for the library I suppose.
⭐Who likes the Black Widowers will like this too, though the interplay between the members and the eminence grise who will solve the problem or better said gives the solution is far less thorough. This gives less chance to both paper members and readers to work things out by themselves, which is a shame. Also some themes may have been unwittingly (lightly) recycled by Asimov, in the pressure to come up with some new story. Great otherwise.
⭐Great book, fast shipping.
