Review See what readers are saying about A Warrior’s Heart! The first time we meet brothers Ben and Aaron along with the sisters Evetta and Hanine who are Marastin Dow is in Cornering Carmen book 5 of the Dragon Lords of Valdier. This was a short, sweet, spicy hot novella. Action and suspense with touches of humor along the way. A great novella giving us a glimpse of these couples journey to true love. While I have read this in the anthology Alpha’s Unleashed I was so very glad to have it by itself. Thank you Ms. Susan for another great story to add to my collection. You are AWESOME!!!!I have read this whole so far even though this was very story it fill in some blank spots. Ben and Aaron were a minority of male humans who found mates of different species. The majority of humans taken were female because either a shortage females in their species or reproduction was very slim. They survived even with every stacked against them. They were not necessarily needed for the survival of the alien species. They were taken for human labor. They were only teenagers when they were taken from earth. Sold as slaves managing to befriend who held them. Both brothers finding their mates who were sisters. They were Marastin Dow Warriors who are known as very cruel and dangerous warriors. Other aliens didn’t trust them and were disliked by most. I liked this story very much.I’m a huge fan of S. E. Smith and have read all of her books. This short story was absolutely wonderful! I can’t believe it was free! When I was first introduced to these characters in ) book 5 (Carmen story) I wanted to know how they got together. This love story was well developed and the characters had depth. I can’t wait to see what happens next for the Marastin Dow and how they overcome their societal problems and discover how to live in peace and find love. Great job Ms. Smith!S.E. Smith writes stories that keep your attention and makes you feel a part of her characters lives. This was a great look at the Marastin Dow people and makes you think there world is trying to change and get away from war. I liked the men and the women in this story I hope she writes more about these people and there world.Check out her other books you will love them too. What an intense story! Smith mixes action with adventure and genuine people with emotions in this quick yet rewarding read. The plot is suspenseful and wrought with danger. She also developed a romance so hot that I think I saw steam coming from my ereader at one point. I enjoyed this look at the culture and beliefs of the Marastin Dow & the growing resistance of the few. I found this beginning in the shift of a cultural paradigm almost as intriguing as the fantastic character that Smith has falling in love throughout the tale. This is one of those rare tales that had me so captivated throughout that I have very few words to express it now. It’s both a brilliant intro into Smith’s work and the perfect segue into a new and demanding cultureThis is a very good book and fills in the lives of two of the characters that appear in the Dragons of Valdier series. I really like the way it fills out the story to let us know how things came to be the way they were.Alien abductions, musical seductions, purple ladies, sabotage, and intrigue are only a few of the things that make A Warriors Heart such an engrossing book. Smooth writing and a fresh outlook kept me reading. It took me a bit to get into this story due to the heroes being the underdogs, (not my favorite type of hero). But the more I read, the more I liked not only the heroes, (brothers; Ben and Aaron), but the heroines, (sisters; Evetta and Hanine). I’m glad I kept reading because not only did I really enjoy this story, I was introduced to the dragon shifters and their mate from the Dragon Lords of Valdier. I look forward to reading more of SE Smith’s books.Cute short story the MC’s were both introduced in Carmens story book 5 of this series. I’m glad MS Smith wrote about them i was curious how they met. The story was fast but I didn’t feel like anything was missing from it. If you like to read books in order I recommend reading this one as part of the Valdier series.I have read a few SE Smith books over the past year or so and she always does such a wonderful job! Her character development, worlds intertwined together, and depth of species knows no equal in such tight parameters. I am always glad I picked up another one of her books! Excellently written.I’ve done something today that I have not done in years, read a story from beginning to end in one day. S E Smith has written a book about people who are so different from each other and how love can build “different” into “same” with understanding and perseverance. Miss Smith has a firm grip on understanding these words and how they can bind 2 people or in this case, 2 species together. Hanine carefully turned the delicate shape in her hand. This one was in the shape of a soft pink flying creature. The intricately folded creature was made of the same material as the rest of them. It was made of cloth fibers that were mixed, rolled flat and then dried. She did an analysis of one when they first started appearing several months before. She carefully unfolded the creature. She hated destroying it, but she was curious when she saw the hint of a printed letter on the tip of one wing. Making sure she didn’t tear the material, she sank down into her chair and worked at unraveling the form. Soon she was able to read the message written on the creased square. Can I keep you? Forever? Hanine’s breath caught at the simple words. Her fingers trembled as she carefully traced them. She bit her lip to keep the smile from showing. Whoever was doing this was driving her crazy with curiosity. “Who are you?” she whispered with a shake of her head. “How are you able to sneak past my sensors?”

⭐ Having read numerous books by this author, I grabbed this one when I saw that it was free on Kindle and also on Audible Escape. Author S.E. Smith packed a lot of action in this quick read novella! Two brothers, taken as children from Earth are forced by their ruthless captors to work for them, spared only because they had convinced their captors that the two brothers would die if seperated. Their time aboard the ship was assisted by a Science officer who wanted to learn more about the earthlings and their government. Two Mariston Dow sisters are also on board the ship as they work their mandatory military enlistment. The two brothers end up meeting the two sisters and chemistry explodes. No spoilers, but there is lots of action in this one as they try to escape! If you have read previous books by this author, the additional characters toward the end of the book will be familiar to you. A great quick-read, but definitely hot sex is included, so you will want to keep this one away from the preteens.

⭐ I actually came upon this book by chance while browsing the author’s amazon page. It was free, but I still wasn’t going to get it because I didn’t particularly care about the Marastin Dow revolution. But it was free so I figured why not. This was a pretty quick read about Ben and Aaron, brothers who taken from Earth about ten years ago when they were still just kids. Able to convince their new owners each time they were bought that they would die if separated they managed to survive thus far. And when they were won by a new captain things actually started looking up for them because they were treated a lot better and even paid. Of course that was until the Marastin Dow attacked and slaughtered the crew. But luck was on their side because the seeds of discontent within the Marastin Dow have been growing and there were enough of them that took over the ship that didn’t want the boys dead. Specifically an officer named Behr who spends time with the brothers to get ideas of how different governments are run and eventually becomes their friend. Behr does all that he can to protect them in fact.Evetta and Hanine are Marastin Dow sisters working on their mandatory military enlistment aboard that ship. After killing an attacker, Evetta flees and accidentally comes across Ben. And their attraction is instant. While those two are flirting it up, Aaron has been leaving Hanine little gifts in the form of origami creatures. Which frustrates her to no end while making her happy. By chance, those two come face to face when Evetta goes to introduce Hanine to Ben and their love also grows instantly. The two couples know that what they’re doing is dangerous and soon enough the day comes when they have to flee. I couldn’t remember that they were in Carmen’s book until they showed up at the spacestation and then it all clicked. After much hardship and fretting, the four of them get happy futures thanks to Ha’van. The instant attraction and instant love between both couples kind of bugged me here. It just wasn’t believable. I did think that Aaron was pretty darn sweet with his origami gifts though.

⭐ Ben and Aaron lived a very dreary life on earth before they were kidnapped. Life on other worlds wasn’t easy for them (they were sold to other species as slave labor). Then the worst happened, the freighter they were on was captured by the marastin dow.The marastin dow believe in only one thing: survival of the fittest. Not all marastin dow think this way. The ones that don’t hide Ben and Aaron on the ship. Things change for the brothers when they meet Hanine and Evetta, two marastin dow females.Hanine and Evetta as marastin dow females live under the constant threat of violence and must always be on their guard. Then they meet the brothers and something deep inside them opens up and recognises them as their soul mates.Ben, Aaron, Hanine and Evetta must fight for their love as well as their lives as they try to escape the warship. To find a place where they can live and be accepted ( earth is out of the question, the marastin dow have purple skin and they are not related to Barney).S.E. Smith’s books has action, romance and humor and blends them all perfectly. Other authors try to do this but it doesn’t quite come out the same. S.E. Smith’s books show that love is not just black and white, but every color in the rainbow.

⭐ What an intense story! ⭐ I love this story, I read it in an anthology and it was just as good. The Marastin Dow are the bad guys of the universe but there are those who want change. When Ben and Aaron Cooper are captured by alien slave traders, Ben convinces them that they have to stay together or they will die. The lie works well during their years of captivity. When a ship they are on is captured by the Marastin Dow, they are surprised to be taken captive and not killed like the rest of the crew. They are held by a science officer who keeps them alive because he knows that they come from a world where people are free. When they meet two female technicians on the ship, sisters Evetta and Hanine Marquette, they are surprised at their instant attraction. This is a great love story, there are elements of danger and loss but the love of the brothers for their Marastin Dow ladies is beautiful. Short, sweet and to the point – a great read.

⭐ I enjoyed this book from the Dragons of Valdier series !I had read the book with the Twin Dragons, and their mate Carmen. At the spaceport that they found themselves in , Carmen gets kidnapped, and the kidnappers are the Marastin Dow sisters, that are in this story !!I Always enjoy a trip to their Dragon World !! And this story is no different.I am hopeful that these people will show up in future books !!

⭐ Not my cup of tea at all. It has extremely explicit sex scenes and the “romance” just seems silly to me. This is a bit disappointing because the alien races and civilizations in this story are interesting to me and I’d like to read more about them without the pornography and the silly high school level crushes. I can’t say that it’s really bad though because I don’t have enough experience reading romance and erotica to know good from bad so if that’s what you’re into don’t listen to me.

⭐ I finally read this book. I liked that it brought the Marastin Dow into focus and in doing so completed a couple of dangling items from the Valdiers and Curizan books. However much I enjoy Ms. Smith, I could not become engaged in this short book. I finished it by skipping the sex scenes and plowing through the rest of the book after the first couple of chapters. Just bored with it all. I liked the 4 characters even.

⭐ I love S.E. Smiths stories. The characters in this story have appeared in another of Smiths stories so I was happy to learn about their full background. I liked Ben & Aaron, human brothers stolen from their family farm in Kansas by aliens when they were young teens. They have managed to stay alive and together. Now 10 years later they have met 2 sisters who happen to be from a disliked vicious alien race. These sisters are not like the rest of their race. The brothers & sisters meet & fall in love. Cute short love story. Linda
