Being Peace is a timeless and eloquent introduction t Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and his most important teachings. First published in 1987 and translated into more than thirty languages, this spiritual classic reveals the connection between our own personal happiness and the state of the world around us. Thich Nhat Hanh’s key practices are resented in simple and clear language, offering practical suggestions for how to create a more peaceful world “right in the moment we are alive.” Being Peace is a must-have for those interested in Buddhist practice and a perfect starting point for anyone concerned about how to create peace in themselves and the world.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Last night I learned that he left this earth at midnight on 21 January 2022. I returned to this book, which j tried to read not long after it was first published. I couldn’t get into it. Again I tried about a year ago. Last night, around midnight, Thich must have interceded because I found myself gripped by the peace that flowed from the page into my consciousness. If only a few of us would be peace, in the manner he suggests, we could indeed change the world completely. I have read hundreds of books on spirituality and this one will now rest both as thr foundation and the crown jewel of my reading list. Be peace. It does not come from outside.

⭐I’m happy I read it and there was some helpful advice for sure . It could have been better written, and the stories extremely repetitive in this book and the others. The same story and lessons over and over.

⭐Opening a book by Thich Nhat Hanh, one expects to find wisdom and guidance regarding practices like breathing, meditation, and mindfulness; and they are in this book. But there is more. For example, in the first chapter the author writes about smiling, namely that being happy and showing it by smiling is a way of sharing peace. Lessons I drew from the book included: 1) “The Three Gems of Buddhism” – a) Buddha – the Enlightened One, b) Dharma – the way of understanding, and c) the Sangha – the community that lives in awareness and harmony; 2) the closeness of understanding and love in Dharma teaching, and 3) the teaching that humans are composed of 5 aggregates: Form, Feelings, Perceptions, Mental Formations, and Consciousness. Approaching the book from a Christian perspective, one of the difficult subjects for me was the author’s understanding of reincarnation and recalling past existences. One of the emphases which I appreciated was that of the interrelatedness of human beings. We take care of/love others by doing the same for ourselves. If I am happy, it is more likely that you are happy, and vice versa. Likewise, if I am wrong, you may suffer, and vice versa. Beyond these truths, there is the matter that everything is interrelated. These ideas are just a sample of the richness to be found in “Being Peace.” I recommend it to anyone interested in “being peace” and moving further along the Buddhist path.

⭐I loved the book, will buy more in the furture

⭐I was very moved by the teachings in this little book. His work and words are timeless wisdom and beauty.

⭐The Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh (“Thich” is his title, not his name), also known to his students as “Thay,” has written more than 60 books in English alone. This slim volume, BEING PEACE, is comprised of a series of Zen teachings presented in the United States over the years. It is very much a book directed toward Americans.Thay’s position in BEING PEACE is that we cannot HAVE peace until we ARE peace; in short, we must actualize peace through our lives. He gives us a series of illustrative situations to think on, and also gives us “The Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings of Interbeing,” a set of modernized and specially-adapted Zen Precepts that we can work with.Perhaps the simplest summation of BEING PEACE comes toward the end: “There is a lot of anger in the Peace Movement…very good at writing a protest letter…need[ing] to write a love letter, a letter that [the recipient] wants to read.”By “being peace” we can be people other people want to be with.

⭐I am still in the middle of the book.Regardless of the price, I like Thầy’s simple but effective writing, and his meaningful stories, of which many I could relate to as a Vietnamese.I like it so much better than the translated Tao Te Ching book. I guess Thich Nhat Hanh’s extraordinary ability to speak multiple languages fluently makes this book (Vietnamese buddhism) “original” while the other one (ancient Chinese philosophy) is not.It is a bit pricey for a small pocket book though. Yet it is still worth it for me and I will buy more books of Thầy.

⭐i’ve read a lot of “spiritual” and “mindfulness” books, and this one is wonderful. distills the essence of how to live a good life in a very easy to read and enjoyable way. i highly recommend it.

⭐I found this book very enlightening, as it was written so that people in a busy world could learn to bring an inner calm force to bear on their stressful lives, and help them keep their family lives as stress free as possible. I suggest that if you buy a copy, you read it, take in it’s teachings and wisdom, then give it to someone you love, respect or just think might need to read it. It may be the kindest thing you can do for someone. meditate on this as you wish. 🙂

⭐A lovely book to dip into when you need some perspective, or read in chunks on holiday or in relaxation mode! The writings are, as with all of Thich Nhat Hanh, beautiful and I am sure I will revisit this book many times.

⭐A delightful collection of some of Thay’s teachings that may be applied to our daily lives, enriching ourselves and our loved ones lives by becoming peace.

⭐Beautiful book – Thich Nhat Hanh’s words are as ever like a soothing balm. Each word deeply watering the best of my seeds & awakening my heart to peace. Read this & ‘in the garden of your heart, may the flowers of peace bloom beautifully’.

⭐Interesting insight into Thich Nhat Hanh style of buddism. The greatest living buddist and second only to HH the Dalai Lama
