Description

In The Diamond That Cuts Through Illusion, the Buddha and his disciple Subhuti teach us how to cut through our dualistic ways of looking at the world in order to have a deeper contact with the wondrous reality that is inside us and all around us. In his lively and penetrating commentaries, Thich Nhat Hanh shows us how this understanding, which he calls “the dialectics of the Prajnaparamita,” leads to a deep reverence for the environment, and he applies these teachings of the Buddha to our own experience, giving practical examples from community and family life, couple relationships, and social service.

⭐so I have been studying the Diamond Sutra for several years under the guidance and teaching of several dama masters it is an extremely rare opportunity to be able to learn such a profound teaching from actual masters. I have read several commentaries as well as watch several lectures and attended many lectures on the Diamond Sutra for the last 2 years although TNHis my favorite author his commentary as well as his translation is not the best I have heard although there are great insights that many other masters have not presented it is a very helpful commentarybut it must be combined with commentary of other teachers . to truly understand the Diamond Sutra one must take guidance from a true, master not just reading a book.overall this is another great book from the great master and it is to be cherished and applied to one’s daily life to gradually understand its significance I recommend this for anyone who has no prior experience with the Diamond Sutra but I also recommend getting other teachings.

⭐This book is a commentary on one of Buddhism’s most important texts, the Diamond Sutra. The author’s commentary is way off base on a number of matters, but I’ll just mention two. First, his assertion that ‘bodhisattvas’ should focus their efforts on cultivating wisdom, insight, etc on the young because it’s too late for the old (poor ROI, I guess) is almost cruel. It certainly represents an interesting Buddhist perspective on age discrimination. I reckon that when bodhisattvas are out there liberating mollusks and rocks, they should focus mostly on the youngsters? I didn’t realize that they’re such a discriminating bunch! Second, while I’m delighted that the Diamond Sutra helped the author finally overcome his issues about peeing in the woods, it’s just a stupid, Woody Allen story, particularly for those of us who go to the sutras in difficult times in search of solace and courage. For this author, this is discouraging. I expected much more than this from him.

⭐A remarkable teacher and Meditation Master of Mahayana Zen. For those too young to know, Master Hahn was recommended by the late Dr. Martin Luther King for the Nobel Peace Prize.

⭐I’m not normally one to write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so in this instance. This translation of the Diamond Sutra is given with clear articulation and care. The dialectic (commentary) that follows the sutra translation does a wonderful job of speaking with you instead of at you. Thich Nhat Hanh gives the student/reader adequate space to ponder elements for oneself, before offering his wisdom filled perspective. I have a great deal of admiration and respect for both the Diamond Sutra and Thich Nhat Hanh. This study has done me a greater service than any other I’ve come across. I will return to its pages time and time again, and drink from its waters of clear liberation. May these words find you in a place of openness, with calm and abiding peace.

⭐Anyone looking for a better understanding of Buddhism need look no further. Thich Nhat Hanh is a wonderful explainer.

⭐This book is a remarkable work by a remarkable monk, Thích Nhat Hanh. It consists of a lucid commentary on arguably one of the most important sutras in the buddhist canon. The Diamond Sutra appears on the surface to be complete nonsense. But, underneath the veneer of seeming contradiction lies the unprecedented insight of the Buddha. The sutra’s deepest meanings reveal the secret of viewing the world with the eyes of transcendent wisdom, seeing past the static definitional meaning of concepts to their underlying suchness. As the sutra reveals, this is one of the most important understandings on the path to enlightenment. The Diamond Sutra is not for beginners in Buddhist thought. But Thích Nhat Hanh’s insightful and lucid commentary explains the deep meaning of the sutra in clear and understandable language. This is amazingly helpful for the average person to be able to deeply understand one of Buddhism’s most opaque yet important teachings.

⭐This sutra is very very deep. Thich Naht Hahn does an excellent job explaining it succinctly, but it still requires (or should I say does not?) a very specific mindset. By what I’ve learned so far, it us the ultimate sutra, but I know that if I were to have approached it wrongly, I would have completely misinterpreted it. That said, if you can approach this very open-mindedly, mindfully, while embracing the middleground, like it says many times, there is nothing that can bring more happiness. Please do not grasp onto my concepts, just read if you feel like you have the ability to completely think freely.

⭐Can find no words to describe the experience of this sutra. Thay’s commentary, as always, supports my capacity to experience the reading.

⭐Profound.Thank you.Transmission of ancient wisdom as true today as when it was first imparted – and now passed on by a wise monk.Timeless.

⭐Good product delivered promptly

⭐As always a good book by a good teacher.

⭐Bought as a present. They liked it

⭐This book was both my first exposure to the Diamond Sutra and to Thich Nhat Hanh. The Diamond Sutra itself, in my opinion, is not for the beginner. It is short and sometimes almost annoyingly repetitive, but it is very deep and its message hard to swallow. On the other hand, Thich Nhat Hanh’s commentary is simple and direct, not adding unnecessary layers that would obscure the text but rather providing an interpretation that is easy to follow and attempts to bring out its true meaning.
