⭐ interesting approach – multiple authors writing a story around the same main character(s) and with a common title – Blood Bath. The results were… mixed. Stephen Leather’s take was the best which makes sense – its his character and world after all. A couple of the others were okay to good, but the rest varied from lame to really bad. Book was free so no big loss. Just don’t expect too much from this collection.
⭐ A series of Jack Nightingale short stories by different authors with differing interpretations of a blood bath. As usual the tales are centred on Satanism & are quite gruesome. The brevity of each ensures that your interest is maintained.
⭐ Each story was very good. Some had me wanting more. But that’s how short stories go. Will look up more
⭐ I liked this series of short stories. I thought even though the authors varied they maintained the Nightingale character very well.
⭐ I’ve been a long-time fan of Stephen Leather and have enjoyed his whole Jack Nightingale series. This is a book of seven short stories based on an intriguing premise. One title: Blood Bath. One protagonist: Jack Nightingale. Seven different authors, each giving their own interpretation to Jack and each providing a story with a touch of “Leatheresque” gore, magic, and demonology. Each story seemed to focus on and capture certain aspects of Nightingale’s character better than others. Some made you forget that you weren’t reading Leather’s actual writing. All were interesting, a few were riveting.
⭐ It was a great read … I. recommend reading this book it is a great read and goes quickly. I stayed engrossed the characters are engaging and has a nice dark humor to offset the horror.
⭐ Because this book was just TOO good to put down. I finally managed by putting my Kindle in a plastic Zip lock bag to keep the steam off it.One book cover, one theme: Jack Nightingale, one title: Blood Bath, seven different perspectives and short stories. It takes a crafty storyteller to put readers on the edge of their seats and then KEEP them there. All seven these writers managed to do exactly that. One story blows you away, so you think you’ll just start quickly on the next one…and the next…and the next… I read the book in one sitting. Couldn’t stop.I got the idea that the writers had a blast of a time, taking up this challenge, therefore I had a blast of a time reading it.At this price, this book is a steal. With all the books that we have at our disposal, this one is one of the best finds ever.I rate this book 5 stars and I rate every writer in this book 5 stars. And thank each and every one of them for the quality they put out for readers.I also hope this is the beginning of a thrilling new trend.
⭐ I enjoyed each one of the stories in this book, the people that wrote the other stories must be avid readers of your stories about Nightingale as
⭐ I liked most of the stories in here. I liked Leather’s (the first one) and the subsequent ones were mostly good. I’m surprised Leather allowed some to be included because one was just awful and the other had a very weird, almost tense relationship between Jack and Jenny. I could just tell it wasn’t right.I think the book is worth a read, even if you skip a few of the fan fiction at the end.
⭐ Stephen Leather’s story was good, but the rest were just bad.Embarassingly bad in some cases (most notably the second story by Alex Shaw – I almost abandoned the whole collection at that point, and to be honest, am still sorry that i didn’t; and the fifth story by Lynnette Waterman which aside from being badly written was utter twaddle.)The other four stories were mostly readable, but sadly, that’s the best you can say for them. I’m very disappointed as the idea – a group of stories written in homage to Leather’s Nightingale books by different authors from the same title/theme – could have been a really interesting book. But the quality of the authors chosen just did not measure up. The plots were bad, laughably so in one case, the writing was terrible, and the characterisation… calling him Jack’, drinking Corona, and driving a MGB do not a character make. Characterisations of Jenny were as bad, if not worse.Absolutely not worth the time, never mind the money. It cost too much at ‘free’.
