⭐ I read about 200 books each year, and almost all of them are thrillers. This just jumped to one of my all-time favorites. It’s an interesting story, with a great plot and great characters. If you are contemplating the audiobook, don’t. I’m a huge audible fan, but I made it through a chapter and a half before I couldn’t take it anymore. Give this one a read and enjoy. You’ll love this if you love thrillers.
⭐ I have yet to come a cross a Morrell book that isn’t well written and thought out. This book simply follows in some of his great works. It does slow down a couple of times during the story, but that’s generally through retrospectives to provide more context for the reveals that come later. It is set in the 1980’s, which provides a chance for some of us to reminisce about to good ol’ Reagan years…
⭐ This was a thrilling spy novel. Great story line, interesting characters and lots of action. I have enjoyed this author’s work so much I read all three novels in this series with these characters. They are all excellent. It is very fast paced and interesting – keeps your attention. Highly recommend.
⭐ David Morrell has been writing exceptional thrillers for decades, and The Brotherhood of the Rose is no exception. This was one of my first Morrell titles, and was the one that got me hooked on his books. Raumulas and Remus are expertly defined characters with a great back story. Like many Morrell novels, the book starts mid-way into the story, and then catches you up on the background of the characters with flashbacks. This lets the suspense and action start quickly, while still filling in key background as you need it. And, like many of his novels, there is a nice surprise waiting for you about 2/3 of the way in. Just as you think you’ve figured out what’s going on, you discover you had no idea! This surprise is followed by a last minute twist. Not quite as good as The Fifth Profession, but a very close 2nd place for David Morrell.
⭐ Based on rave reviews for this author I bought this book. It started strong and kept my interest for 70 percent of the way. But I couldn’t finish because it degraded into a dull and ridiculous slog. I don’t even wonder what happened because I truly quit caring.
⭐ This book was a real pioneer in the genre of espionage thrillers. It’s smart, fast-paced, and just a great introduction to the character of Saul, The character the even today I believe would make a great hero for the big screen. David Morrell has done an interesting thing in the way it’s in pairs then a violence with secret religious orders. There is a strong sense of grace in this book for even men that have committed unforgivable crimes. It’s deeper than your average action story, giving you a lot to chew on beyond the story itself.
⭐ I read David Morrell’s Brotherhood of the Rose many years ago and it always stuck in my mind that it was a terrific story and one of my favorite books. I enjoyed it so much the first time, I thought I would re-read it, and I’m so glad I did. It is very suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend it.
⭐ The basic premise of the plot requires a large stretch of credulity on the part of the reader. However it moves along briskly and this does not become a problem. There are lots of good action scenes and a story line that stays exciting to the very end. Some unexpected twists and turns in the plot keeps reader interest high. There are some spots where the hand-wringing slows things down a little, but not to the point of keeping this from being an enjoyable read.
⭐ I believe my dystopic wife enjoyed this book as much as I did. I texted a short snippet (when Saul meets Eliot at the cabin, stopping while they exchanged insults.) She immediately returned my message with, “How dare you leave me hanging like this! More! I demand more!”With many twisting story lines that converge into a simple, satisfying ending, I so highly recommend this book to my fellow fans of espionage / intrigue literature.
⭐ Nobody’s better at thillers than Morrell. Keeps you on the edge of your seat from page 1 to the very last sentence.
