⭐Bought for grandson. He likes it

⭐Everything arrived on time and as advertised

⭐Love Kipling and love Captains Courageous so, on a whim, I bought this leather-bound version for $20 because I saw that it had been priced at $200. It’s $50 as I write this on Dec. 1, 2008.Well, it’s leather bound and it’s legible and it’s Kipling, but I guess I don’t know enough about leather binding to know if I really got a good deal or what. My philosophy is always by hardback so I’m glad I purchased this book (I got Just So Stories too), but besides from being leather, they’re otherwise plain-jane.The only thing I definitely didn’t like (why I subtracted a star) is that these are part of a numbered collection, and the number is embossed on the spine so it’s obvious that I only have volumes 12 and 20.That being said, I’m going to buy more (maybe someday all of them) if they get back down to $20 apiece. My OCD compels it and I want to have the entire Kipling collection too.

⭐I use this product to read to my 12-year-old grandson. I was unaware of the ““ language”of Kipling was going to be so difficult to understand. I would love to have another version in a simpler text, simply for comprehension purposes. The book was in great condition and very well cared for.

⭐Once in a lifetime one discovers a piece of literature that is timeless and relevant. Kipling is well known for his storytelling, but this work exceeds the story, which is brilliant, and enters into the realm of growth, from boy to man.Whether from boy to man or girl to woman, this work is a shining light – a beacon of guidance,I first read this at age 16. at age 75, with a permanent copy on my shelf, and now an e-copy on my phone, i have lost count of the number of times i have read it.This book, old fashioned as it is, still sends tingles up my spine withs it’s presentation of values for living in a world of madness and mayhem.Rod Moore

⭐This is a great old story and if you can get past the incorrect spelling of a lot of the words then you will enjoy it.I know the book is written this way because it is using the exact pronunciations of a character that spoke English as a second language and showcased it’s period in time when filmed in 1937. So if you don’t mind getting around that you are going to enjoy the story.Personally I kept stumbling around the words since was unaccustomed to the incorrect spelled words.

⭐Refreshing; a transport back to a time and place when hard work is required, children mature quickly, reversals of fortune are dramatic, and where the least of us has an important role to play in the overall scheme of things. Life aboard a commercial fishing vessel in the nineteenth century was brutal: requiring hard, hard work, sleeplessness, constant physical danger, unforgiving conditions, and where the workplace is populated by sturdy, ruthless people. Big business interests, similarly. A story of survival at the school of hard knocks.

⭐This is a great story, a classic. However, the publisher (I’m assuming) managed to have a TON of typographical errors which made the story harder to read, especially since it is in a vernacular that is already difficult to follow. Great story, but I would look for a copy from another publisher.

⭐I rarely read classics. I find them too wordy and full of too much prose. Too much description of the curtains and the carpets but Kipling sets the picture without fussiness.A great dip into Kipling’s great legacy if you like sea adventures.

⭐I absolutely loved this book. If you like sea adventures, coming of age books, this is for you. It’s a lovely story and a very satisfying read, although a word of warning if you are buying this as a present! I bought it for someone and they just couldn’t get on with it because of the heavy use of dialect in the writing. In the beginning I too found this a little hard but I soon got used to it although I can see why some readers don’t like it, it can ruin the flow of a story etc and often writers just suggest the dialect, but for me, it only made it more realistic. Highly recommended reading.

⭐Quite a difficult read because of all the dialects and technical terms. This particular copy has had the paragraphs removed so it is just one long piece of text apart from the chapters. There is not much plot but a great deal of brilliant description of the sea and ships.

⭐classic

⭐Every boy should read this book it’s first class
