Description

Welcome to the shadow world of the Blood Courtesans, where vampires are real, rich, powerful—and hungry. It’s not supposed to be about love…until it is.

Being the baby sister in a family chock-full of slayers isn’t easy. My entire life, I’ve watched my brothers venture out into the darkness to hunt the things that prey on the innocent. Vampires are evil, they tell me, but they refuse to let me fight.

Now, my best friend’s life is in danger. She’s racked up quite the debt, and the vampire she owes has come to collect. To save her, I need to go undercover as a blood courtesan and sell myself to the highest bidder.

Enter Ethen Rune, an uncompromising bastard with a penchant for, well…me. My family says I shouldn’t trust vampires, that they would drain me dry rather than look at me. But to save Tessa, I need his money. I never expected to fall in love with him…

…Or to become a monster myself.

And don’t miss Gwen’s second Blood Courtesan Book, Exposed: Zoe, released in November 2018!

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ I liked this book. Especially I liked the idea of blood courtesans, basically prostitutes with exclusive clientele, but still something else.Amelie Winter finds her best friend to be in no-way-out situation and does what any best friend would do, decides to help her any way she can. And the only way to help Tessa is to become a blood courtesan. But this really made me dislike Tessa, who has gotten her self into shitty situation by being extremely selfish, greedy and stupid. And that happens again and again later on on the book. I think that even friendship goes only so far… To make the whole thing worse, Winter’s father and brothers are vampire slayers, so all this has to stay a secret.Blood courtesans serve exclusively vampires and in a charity event, the winning bid for Winter is made by Ethen, a over 200 year old vampire that has secluded himself. According to the contract, they have three days together. Winter is supposed to sate his hunger whether it’s for blood or sex and Ethen shall pay her and when it’s all over, Winter returns to her old life, saves Tessa and all’s good.Of course it isn’t that simple, whole range of emotions stir and secrets are bound to be revealed. And then the unthinkable, irrevocable happens and nothing remains the same.I really liked the world building and the back story.

⭐ I was given this book as an ARC for an honest opinionThis book is really cute and shows a different light on vampires (in regards to previous books I’ve read.)Ethan and Winter are a great match pushing each others limits yet still respecting boundaries.I think the house keeper and her husband are great background characters and her best friend is the one friend we all have in real life where we lobe them, yet times think we want to smack the crap out of them for being so stupid. I do wish ere could have been more about the family and how things turned out after the ending. This is a great read very much recommended

⭐ This is the first book in the “Blood Courtesans” series that I’ve ever read, and I greatly enjoyed it. Although I don’t own the entire series yet, I’m working on it. I liked the character of Amelia Winter; although I wondered how far she was willing to go to protect her feckless friend Tessa. By the end of this novel, the reader discovers how far that is. Tessa irritated me! Such a stupid twit! She got herself into so much trouble, endangered other peoples’ lives, and didn’t learn a damn thing! Although the ending was a bit rushed, I still consider this a 5-star read. I would like there to be one more book based on Ethen & Amelia’s new life together, so the reader can experience their relationship as a couple. The writing and editing were very good. There was just one typo that I caught—

⭐ I really loved this story! Amelia Winter comes from a family of vampire slayers. Her best friend Tessa foolishly got too involved with a bad group of vampires and racked up a large financial debt she could not repay. The only way to get that much money in time to meet the payment deadline was to become a highly paid blood courtesan for wealthy vampires. Against her better judgment, Amelia gets hired for a big charity event and meets Ethen Rune. He is the best vampire character I have ever seen! I think I fell in love with him myself! The way he treats Amelia makes me sigh and swoon! But the vicious vampire Alexei does not want the debt paid off and hates Amelia for stopping his henchman from hurting her best friend. So he is definitely seeking revenge. The story is so suspenseful and kept me reading until the very end. I hope that Gwen will write a follow-up story to this one so we can see how the characters continue in their new dynamic. This was just so excellent!

⭐ I stumbled upon this series and gave it a try late last night. I read it straight through until 4 am. I immediately wanted to check out the other books in the series. I have never been happier to have Kindle Unlimited. I loooooooooooooooved the fact that the story flowed well, it wasn’t too short, nor too long; basically, it didn’t feel rushed. The chemistry between Amelia/ Winter and Ethan Rune was felt through the author’s style of writing. I hated that I was torn between feeling that Winter was either extremely loyal to her friend (aka “I love her like a sister”) and just being completely stupid for consistently trying to save her by putting her life in danger and going against what she was taught to believe.I read a lot of negative reviews about Winter’s character regarding her being a “weak female” for putting herself on the line for Tessa. But let me tell you, if you ever had a friend or sibling that you loved unconditionally who made one stupid choice after another, you would try and save them too. Winter is confident and outspoken, not weak; a bit too trusting in her BFF’s loyalty to her perhaps, but not weak. You don’t turn your back on family and that is the premise behind Winter’s loyalty to Tessa.Sorry for the rant but I just had to put that out there since this is what all of the negative comments seem to be about. Other than that everyone including myself seem to loooooove Marked: Winter’s story.Give it a try you will love it too.

⭐ Amelia Winter is in a pickle…well her best friend Tessa is. Winter feels its up to her to bail her out and pay off the nasty vampire by signing up to be a blood courtesan. Winter comes from a family of slayers so she’s got preconceived notions about vampires. She’s not a slayer even if her brothers and father are. She is purchased by the reclusive Ethen Rune. He’s never participated. Prefers the shadows. He’s not handsome or pretty by anyone’s standards. There is something about him that Winter likes. Draws her to him. Winter keeps secrets from him and when it comes to light its not pretty. Especially the part where she comes from a family of slayers so Ethen doesnt believe her when she says she isnt one. Evidence is pretty bad against her. A twist of fate she is turned by nasty vampire who’s after Tessa. Will Ethen care enough to rescue her before she kills her best friend?I’ve read a few of these and I love Gwen’s stories cause she is awesome. 🙂 This was sweet and kind of a beauty meets beast in a way. I really enjoyed the story. I loved Ethen’s character. All broody and hot no matter what he looks like. He’s not ugly in my eyes. I have to say that her bff Tessa ticked me off she totally uses Winter to save her own skin. She’s not a bad person just doesnt own up to things and continues to make mistakes and Winter cleans it up. Winter is a bit of an enabler for her as well. Anyways, thats my only issue with the book.

⭐ As the title says I was torn on how to rate this book. I found the beginning tedious and even stopped reading about half way through. After reading a dozen or so stories, I picked this one back up about 3 weeks later. I don’t know if it was my mood or the story. Overall I enjoyed the author’s writing style. I didn’t catch any typos or glaring grammar issues. If they were there, they didn’t pull me out of the story.I’m not sure if I liked Winter so much in the beginning. Yes, she was making a huge sacrifice for her friend…not that she let us forget it either.Yes, Tess was beyond stupid. Friends or not, I would have been tempted to smack the broad.Ethen was my favorite character until the end of the book when Winter’s dad took that spot :D. While the book’s blurb makes him sound almost like a bad guy, I found him to be quite remarkable and upstanding.I have to give a shout to Ms. Doyle. Loved her loyalty to Ethen and her advice to Winter. How would you describe the plot of this book? Some twistsWhich of these words best describes the mood? Suspenseful and ThoughtfulHow would you describe the pace? slow in the beginning, then fast towards the endHow would you describe the characters? Developed

⭐ I loved Marked. Amelia aka Winter is a strong loyal friend who puts herself on the line for her friend Tessa. She even agrees to be a blood courtesan to help out Tessa. Enter Ethen Rune probably one of the best vampires around he’s gentle yet sullen. He can be warm towards Amelia yet ice cold to anyone else. This story kept me up into the wee hours as I couldn’t put it down and wanted to know what was going to happen next. Excellent read.I didn’t care for Tessa at all in fact I’d of loved to have slapped some sense into her. Her selfish attitude and her total disregard for her friend’s welfare made me see red. I’d love to see a follow up story to see if Tessa felt any true remorse for what ended up happening to Amelia.

⭐ This book was perfect for a lazy day read. I’ve already read a few books from the Blood Courtesan series and none are the same. They are all unique in their own way. Winter was an incredible m, determined, and stubborn character. She took way too much responsibility on her shoulders and risked her own life for those she loves. It was enjoyable to read and the relationship with Ethen was pretty steamy with plenty of sexual tension in the beginning. Overall, it was a good vampire read that wasn’t super long.

⭐ A friend recommended this series to me, and I am so glad she did. The storyline was an interesting twist on vampire life, and I couldn’t stop reading once I started. There was danger, intrigue, suspense, and sizzle with characters you want to get to know (at least some of them…) – will be binge reading the rest of this series! Who needs to sleep?
