The ideal review for the thousands of college students who enroll in Probability courses.About the BookAn update of this successful outline in probability, modified to conform to the current curriculum. Schaum’s Outline of Probability mirrors the course in scope and sequence to help enrolled students understand basic concepts and offer extra practice on topics such as finite and countable sets, binomial coefficients, axioms of probability, conditional probability, expectation of a finite random variable, Poisson distribution, and probability of vectors and Stochastic matrices. Coverage will also include finite Stochastic and tree diagrams, Chebyshev’s Inequality and the Law of Large Numbers, calculations of binomial probabilities using the normal approximation, and regular Markov processes & stationary state distributions.Key Selling FeaturesOutline format supplies a concise guide to the standard college course in Probability430 solved problemsEasily-understood review of ProbabilitySupports all the major textbooks for Probability coursesClear, concise explanations of all Probability conceptsAppropriate for the following courses: Elementary Probability & Statistics; Data Analysis; Finite Mathematics; Introduction to Mathematical Statistics; Mathematics for Biological Sciences; Introductory Statistics; Discrete Mathematics; Probability for Applied Science; Introduction to Probability TheoryRecord of Success: Schaum’s Outline of Probability is a solid selling title in the series—with previous edition having sold over 12,500 copies since 2002.Supports the following bestselling textbooks:Bluman, Elementary Statistics: A Step by Step Approach, 4ed, 0073347140, $92.22, MGH, 2006. User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I’m taking a graduate course in probability. This book is really a life saver. It describes the essence of what you need to know. The author is not trying to be fancy or show off. There are some mistakes. That is why I give it 4 stars. But well worth the money.

⭐On page 5, figure 1-3 (a), the intersection of A and B should be also shaded. I don’t know whether this is a printed mistake or the book has some errors. And I haven’t been able to find the errata of this book. This book is good, however, I really need to see the errata!!!

⭐Useful, but wished it went into more details in the examples.

⭐This is specifically regarding the kindle edition. Many expressions are partially provided as images and partially as text–this makes some of them rather difficult to decipher. This would be much better if such expressions were either typeset properly or presented entirely as images–having a bunch of text with a huge picture of a symbol in the middle apparently randomly placed in relation to the text doesn’t do a thing for readability.

⭐Typos seem to be par for the course in math exercise books. I have yet to find a single one that doesn’t have more than a typo per page. That gets extremely frustrating when the material gets harder. This one has about two or three typos per page if you’re generous in your definition of “typo.” Still, the material is well-rounded enough.

⭐Satisfied.

⭐Great book for review of prob and stats

⭐This exercise book touches upon all the right subjects in probability theory, and offers lots of practice. As usual with Schaum’s outlines the explanations / theory in the beginning of each chapter are not that great, but not entirely useless. The main reason for the two stars are the high number of errors which induced a state of paranoia. The most egregious is on page 5, Fig. 1-3a. For a $19 and a second edition expect more!

⭐This book is riddled with errors to the point where it is unusable for my needs. I contacted the publisher, whose communication skills left much to be desired, and would not provide an errata. The new case handler told me that they would look into providing a new edition of the workbook to resolve the errors. I ended up buying Introduction to Probability by Blitzen which is very detailed and much more recommended, albeit at a higher price bracket.

⭐I’m only on page six and I’m already confused because of several errors. how can it be a 2nd edition and it still has simple errors about set union and symmetric difference? is there an errata list with corrections somewhere?

⭐There are more errors in this textbook than I have seen in any other textbook in my life. Then, there are also lots of typos too. This is the last thing you need when you are trying to master tough material. I would not recommend this book at all.

⭐A very good book.
