Description

Lady Catherine presides over the declining fortunes of the Chatterton estate, which is lacking a suitable heir. When she hears of a grandson she never knew, Cliff Hardy takes the job, reluctantly, of finding him. From the run-down boarding houses of Darlinghurst to the social set of Canberra, Hardy finds the case forcing him into some of the strangest roles a private detective has ever had to play.

It’s no secret that the people who hire Hardy have nowhere else to turn—and Lady Catherine needs her heir to be found now

⭐ Another great read from Peter Corris. The anti-hero, Cliff Hardy, has a certain way with his investigations and he is not averse to falling for unusual women during them. Based around Sydney, you will recognise the many places to which he travels. The characters are well-drawn. An enjoyable read. I’m glad his old Falcon keeps going – just!

⭐ Being an aussie, am probaly slightly biased, however the author writes an intriguing mystery, with plenty of unsavoury characters, Cliff Hardy a P.I. investigates amongst the seedy side of Sydney and NSW, finding himself in some very nasty places and situations.”The Marvellous Boy” is the third?? Peter Corris book in the series, and will be back for more.

⭐ Is this Corris’ most timeless novel ? If not, why not ?

⭐ I quite enjoyed the book but I found it quite forgettable afterwards. Having read a couple of early Peter Corris books, I find them very fast-paced and sometimes I get confused who is who, as he doesn’t give much of a description when a new character is introduced. He spent more time on the characters in this book so I was able to follow the storyline better. His descriptions are very colourful and hilarious and are probably my favourite parts of the books I have read.

⭐ You get what you expect from a Cliff Hardy novel. Hardy’s a character and the plots take him around Nsw. This time Wisemans Ferry, Canberra etc. Good dialogue and some plot twists to keep interest. A good ligh5 read

⭐ Very good story which moves along at a lively pace. Always a bit of a surprise near the end.Easy to read, a great escape from other worries.

⭐ Great easy read. Love the laid back style. Good plot. Love the Cliff Hardy main character. So unassuming and down to earth. About to buy the next in the series.

⭐ Peter corris never fails to deliver an entertaining, almost believable, racy story that is difficult to put down and this is a good example.

⭐ Every one is great., Best PI books I have ever read. Leaves the American books for dead.

⭐ Vintage Peter Corris; interesting characters; self-deprecating hero; snapshots of Sydney; comfortable as a pair of old slippers.
