Description
When the battle-scarred but indefatigable PI loses all his dough to an unscrupulous financial advisor, he has to follow the money trail deep into Sydney’s underbelly—the territory of big money and bent deals—to get himself back in the black When beautiful young women kiss you on the cheek you know you’re over the hill, but I didn’t really feel like that. As Wesley said, I still had the moves. Cliff Hardy may still have the moves but he’s in trouble. The economy’s tanking and he’s been conned by a financial advisor and lost everything he’s got. Cliff only knows one way, and that’s forward, so he’s following the money trail. It’s a twisted road that leads him down deep into Sydney’s underbelly, into the territory of big money, bent deals, big yachts, and bad people. Cliff’s in greater danger than ever before, but he’s as tenacious as a dog with a bone.

⭐ This book is seriously brilliant. As the reader progresses through the tale, the plot unravels like a virgin onion being prepared for its cuisinestic debut. This fantastic story is relatively complex, but this complexity pays off tenfold as you progress, with each chapter’s cliffhanger ending leaving you breathless but justifiably excited about what lies ahead. At book’s start, Hardy is hired by Miles Standish, lawyer, to investigate the apparent reappearance of a con man (Richard Malouf) presumed dead after being shot in the temple. But was he? Said con man was Hardy’s financial advisor just after the death of Lilly Truscott (Hardy’s part time lover) who left him well over half a million dollars. We also learn that Hardy has been legally bound by a share market technicality that means he will shortly incur another massive debt. As Hardy says to Standish, sitting comfortably in his office, “When people get personal with me, I tend to get personal back.” So watch out, Mr Malouf! The first clue Hardy tries to meet with is drowned off shore and it soon becomes apparent that no one in the story is who they appear to be. So he turns to those he knows and can trust and by chapter eight, ironically, one is a current NSW Police Detective, and the other is a former state commissioner of police.Revelation follows revelation follows gasp-inducing revelation in this intriguing and sometimes violent story. Emotional attachments to the major and minor characters add volumes to the reader’s enjoyment as well as adding to the tension of the reading experience. In summary, then, FOLLOW THE MONEY is one of the great volumes of this classic series of fantastic books by Peter Corris. Cliff Hardy rules!Buy it, read it and love it.BFN Greggorio!
⭐ Every up and coming writer’s education should include reading as many of Corris’s novels as they can put their hands on. After seemingly endless novels with flawed and introspective heroes wallowing in self-pity and plots that fade rather than end, it is great to return to Corris’s Cliff Hardy who encapsulates the best – and worst – of the tough Aussie male and a plot that is tight and fast-moving.In this novel Cliff may be down, but he is never beaten. He may have lost his money, his PI licence and his lover, but not only does he keep on going, he keeps on fighting and still has fun doing it.If you have somehow missed out on this Aussie literary icon, want a good easy read over a lazy weekend (this is not a novel that will provoke deep thought) Follow the Money will leave you satisfied.
⭐ Can’t go wrong with any of the Cliff Hardy series. I only regret it took me this long to discover Mr. Corris. My only problem when I get another one in the mail: I’m not getting anything else done until it’s finished.
⭐ Cliff is an interesting character although he gets in to all sorts of trouble. He is an endearing aussie PI
⭐ I was hooked from the opening chapter , love the pace and the finish .
⭐ Incredible as it may seem, I had never read a Peter Corris novel, so I had no idea of the depth of pleasure in store for me when I began to read his latest Cliff Hardy offering, “Follow the Money”.The GFC in full swing, ex-PI Cliff Hardy has managed, not only to lose all his money, but also to end up with a future debt, thanks to the actions of an unscrupulous and now possibly (or possibly not) deceased financial advisor. Less than enamoured by the idea of bankruptcy, Cliff decides to “follow the money”.If, as I did, you are wondering how a novel concerning a financial advisor and the GFC could be anything but boring, let me assure you that Peter Corris has succeeded admirably in producing both humour and excitement. I would add that I am very grateful that my financial advisor is nothing like this oneCorris has created a likeable hero in Cliff Hardy. He gives us a clever plot with a few twists, credible dialogue with plenty of chuckles and laugh-out-loud moments, lots of action and a great climax. This was my first Peter Corris novel: it is, without doubt, not my last
⭐ This book has all the Cliff Hardy trademarks — great settings in an around Sydney, bad guys, Cliff getting beaten up, a cast of glamorous women, Cliff’s ongoing disdain for the majority of the NSW Police Force. He’s still working out, he seems to be drinking a bit more, still living in Glebe. And maybe that’s the problem after thirty-plus adventures maybe the stories are all starting to sound a bit similar. I know I’ll read the next one, and the next one, just like I’ve read them all so far. But maybe it’s time for Cliff to retire and for Peter Corris to introduce us to someone new? Not a bad book, I enjoyed reading it, but nothing ground-breaking.
⭐ Interesting book, but not his best.
⭐ Cliff is getting old, but I still like the old style. His logical thinking, and his luck with the ladies, and of course the old falcon.
⭐ enjoyed
