⭐This ebook arrived on my Kindle all in a jumble. The font was mostly courier and the justification was a nightmare. Looks like someone found a text file and didn’t even bother cleaning it up. Now I’ll have to buy this book all over again! I don’t know if this is Amazon’s fault or the publisher’s but I resent having to be QC. Doesn’t anyone screen these ebooks before putting them up for sale?

⭐DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. I don’t do reviews, but in this case I felt compelled. This isn’t a real book, it’s obviously something someone just cut and paste from a word document and printed on some paper without any thought. Total waste of money. DO NOT BUY.

⭐Excellent book arrived in perfect condition on time. Always have enjoyed Kipplings poems.

⭐Poorly type-set; line breaks inserted into verses, and incorrect indentation tends to ruin Kipling’s rhythm. The pocket book of Kipling’s poems are carefully set.

⭐I was gonna buy this version of Barack Room Ballads but noticed they said all profits go to something called: Free River Community.British Hippies or some sort of trash; not for me.

⭐This “book” should become the classic example for avoiding any purchases of material which do not show their actual pages and layouts. It is equivalent to a second grader’s attempt to create a book, not a reputible publishing house. The table of contents bleeds directly into the first poem. None of the poems are laid out by line, instead Quill Pen Press has elected to cram the maximum amount of 12 point type into each line in order to minimize the amount of paper required (all 18 sheets worth!). Without a previous familiarity with the poems herein, Kipling’s meter and rhythem can only be guessed at. Worse, almost all of the poems, while short, are so compressed by the layout that they span two pages – and Quill Pen has elected to break internal lines of the poems.Learn from my mistake – avoid this edition (or anything else from Quill Pen Press for that matter) and purchase one that is compently formatted.

⭐This kindle edition by Kypros Press does have an active table of contents, so it is a doddle to find any particular poem, and of course we have here three poems that I am sure most people are aware of, Tommy, Gunga Din, and Mandalay.For a lot of people this is something that has probably been read many times over the years, but there are always newcomers, especially with younger people delving into poetry. As many people have found, and as T S Eliot pointed out, with Kipling his poetry and ballads are immediate, you do not have to think long afterwards and try to decipher symbolism and what else, it is clear what is meant and being referred to quite simply, meaning that you get these poems from the very first time you read them. This in itself is no bad thing, it makes them easy to read and understand, and draws you right in.Always a joy to read this does remind us all that Kipling was a great writer and still has a huge readership.

The rough justice for Danny Deever, and the conflicting contempt and adulation of Tommy clearly reflect this.One small criticism of the Kindle edition. The poems are presented as continuous text rather than in verse form, which does make for rather disjointed reading

⭐One particular poem I wanted, as in my review title, was missing, so I was very disappointed. But there are other enjoyable poems in the selection.

⭐Gorgeous illustrations for each of Kipling’s poems. Amazing copy to add to a poetry collection and a brilliant start for students who are being introduced to poetry. I am currently using the Barrack Room ballads for my English Literature Alevel coursework and there are plenty of resources online to compliment this anthology!

⭐Heard only here and there previously. These are good and so much more than soldiers’ tales.
