Description

Master storyteller Stephen King presents the classic #1 national bestseller of the ultimate vehicle of terror!“This is the story of a lover’s triangle…It was bad from the start. And it got worse in a hurry.” It’s love at first sight for high school student Arnie Cunningham when he and his best friend Dennis Guilder spot the dilapidated 1958 red-and-white Plymouth Fury for sale—dubbed “Christine” by its original cantankerous owner—rusting away on a front lawn of their suburban Pennsylvania neighborhood. Dennis knows that Arnie’s never had much luck in the looks or popularity department, or really taken an interest in owning a car . . . but Christine quickly changes all that. Arnie suddenly has the newfound confidence to stick up for himself, going as far as dating the most beautiful girl at Libertyville High—transfer student Leigh Cabot—even as a mysteriously restored Christine systematically and terrifyingly consumes every aspect of Arnie’s life. Dennis and Leigh soon realize that they must uncover the awful truth behind a car with a horrifying and murderous history. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and heaven help anyone who gets in Christine’s way…

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Much more in depth then the movie (which I also liked and think should be re-made). Stephen King is money at settings, and mood. I have enjoyed so much of his work and it stays with you and re-appears at funny times. There is a swear word that the lead character calls people and I have to be careful not to start using it because it just seems so offensive but sometimes I’m thinking it.SK is also so good with phrases and he has a funny one in here that also cannot be said but it cracks me up.I almost started calling my car Christine but then a chill ran down my back.Anyhoo…I enjoyed the story.

⭐Just like Arnie, Christine was my first love. Her name was Christine and she was two years older. Wait….let’s talk about the book.Christine it’s still my first love, because it was the first King novel i’ve read, twenty years ago. Saw the movie too, but i’ve read the book again lately.I think every young person should read this, and anyone who wants to remember their youth. It is after all a love story with a macabre twist. It’s King after all. It’s a great story, it’s funny, i laughed so loud many times during my read, but it’s definitely a page turner.I never understood why he changed voice in the second part, goes back to first person on the third part, but it’s one of my fav King’s novel. Definitely in my top 10.Give it a try.

⭐I always enjoyed the movie Christine and had seen it years ago, so I figured I would give the book a shot and boy was it an excellent read. I had trouble putting it down and as much as I like the movie the book has so much more in it. And it differs from the movie in so many ways, so if you have only seen the movie the book is much better like they usually are. This was a great book I can understand why its a classic just an awesome story.

⭐What can I say about Steven King that hasn’t been said before. Unlike other authors , he won’t let you know who Christine is until he thinks you are ready. Then you will still be surprised out of your mind.

⭐Great book love the read the book is a perfect size I love paperbacks I can bring it with me anywhere comfortably

⭐I purchased this book and Cujo for my 12 year old grandson who enjoys horror movies and has written his own horror novel. He was delighted with both of these books that were Christmas presents. I find the older my grandchildren get, the more difficult it is to select the right gift. He really was happy to get these.

⭐Not nearly as polished as his later works but still very good. Thank you, S.K., for so many years of awesome reading!

⭐For my money Christine is Stephen King’s best work. A ast-paced, believable and terrifying tale of “everyday evil” that like Pet Sematary brings the thing in the closet back from your childhood memories to just outside your “grownup” bedroom door.It IS still OUTSIDE that door. Isn’t it? Do you get up and check or stay safe under the covers? Keep the door shut and keep it out or open it so it can’t hide on the other side?Aw hell, nobody believes in that stuff anymore after they get out of high school and become “adults”, do they?

⭐Reading Christine made me realise why I stopped reading Stephen King twenty odd years ago. I can’t help it but I find his writing style annoying. Christine is about an evil car, who may be possessed by it’s former owner and seems to have got a massive hold on it’s new owner Arnie. King is a master writer and there are many excellent set pieces throughout. However for me the book is far too long. It clocks in at 722 page and could easily have been cut to 350. King goes off on tangents, digressions and fills in so many background details on the characters that are completely superfluous to the story and plot. This was the problem with both IT and The Tommyknockers.

⭐Don’t you give me no dirty looksYour father’s hip, he knows what cooksJust tell your hoodlum friend outsideYou ain’t got time to take a rideYakety yak (don’t talk back)’This is Dennis’s story, the story of his best friend Arnie and his car, Christine.Objectively this is far longer than it needed to be, am I complaining? No, absolutely not, I was here for every single sentence.I loved how every chapter started with song lyrics. I headed over to Spotify a lot reading this book, listening to the tracks, getting into the spirit of things, seeing Christine and Arnie in my mind motorvating around town.I really enjoyed these characters also, King always knows how to gives his characters depth and everyone of them was very visual to me. Even Christine, that car had personality alright and held her own on the pages. And was I scared? I was certainly freaked out by this story, I think it’s going to be a while before I stop looking at cars driving in the dark wondering who, or what, is driving them.Another five star book, I was immersed.Let’s motorvate!

⭐I really liked this book. While the concept in itself is far fetched and (I think) would never happen, 🙂 it was really well written. Desperately sad ending which almost made me cry, but I did struggle to cross a road for a while! King builds the horror and suspense up slowly but surely, until by the final showdown you’re left in a state of pure dread. Some very gory death scenes too. I couldn’t sleep the first night after I finished this!

⭐Yes it’s dated in most of the book.. But wow, I never thought a SK book written ‘a long time ago’ could be so thoroughly enjoyable, relevant and page-turning… This is definitely a classic not fully publicised … And 400+ pages too.

⭐This was the first ever Stephen King novel I read over 35 years ago. It’s amazing how he can make a story so riveting about a car! But it really is a thrill ride, and it’s very cleverly written. The movie is also excellent and this is one Stephen King book that I highly recommend.
