Description

From master storyteller Stephen King comes his classic #1 New York Times bestseller about four friends who encounter evil in the Maine woods.Twenty-five years ago, in their haunted hometown of Derry, Maine, four boys bravely stood together and saved a mentally challenged child from vicious local bullies. It was something that fundamentally changed them, in ways they could never begin to understand. These lifelong friends—now with separate lives and separate problems—make it a point to reunite every year for a hunting trip deep in the snowy Maine woods. This time, though, chaos erupts when a stranger suddenly stumbles into their camp, freezing, deliriously mumbling about lights in the sky. And all too quickly, the four companions are plunged into a horrifying struggle for survival with an otherworldly threat and the forces that oppose it…where their only chance of survival is locked into their shared past—and the extraordinary element that bonds them all…

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I read some reviews by readers that just didn’t like this book by King but that isn’t me. I loved this book – but then I enjoyed TOMMYKNOCKERS too.Four friends have gone deer hunting for years together but this year will be different. This year they end up in a quarantine zone after an alien craft lands in the forest, and all kinds of havoc ensues – alien and human. My favorite part of the book was the fifth member of the group, whom the men met and rescued years ago. This book was the first book King published after his near-fatal run in with a van and readers can see that influence in his writing of this book. That would have been a terrible thing to put behind you, if you ever could.I highly recommend this book. I loved it. Be aware there are some gruesome parts.

⭐”Some dreams die and fall free, that is another of the world’s bitter truths. How many bitter truths there are.”First thing you have to know about this: It’s weird. It’s really, really damn weird.Second thing: It’s not Stephen King’s best work. If you’re not a King fan, this is not the book to change your mind. In fact, it’ll probably just confuse you.But if you ARE a King fan, you’ll appreciate King doing what he does best: Weaving incredibly real, visceral, heart-crushing relationships between characters, and focusing on the nitty-gritty, often ugly little things people do and think that make you, reader, feel so human.I don’t think I’d call this a good book, or say that I liked it. It felt poorly planned. The flashbacks between childhood and adulthood weren’t as seamlessly written as IT’s were, and there were far too many boring military chapters that slowed the narrative to an intolerable crawl. However, like pizza and sex, it’s still a Stephen King book, so how bad can it really be. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me shudder in disgust/horror, and it got me thinking Thinky Thoughts on the nature of humanity. I confess to only reading it to learn more about the expanded universe (mostly for background Derry info to use for fanfiction purposes) but I enjoyed it on its own merit, too.

⭐I love King’s writing so much, I usually slow down towards the end of the book because I don’t want it to end.I didn’t know Dreamcatcher was – in part – about aliens. I’m OK with E.T. but the aliens in Dreamcatcher are scary! King’s description of the “S*** Weasel” is so vivid, I found myself cringing.Mr Gray is a combination of novice, doofus and cold blooded killer. He uses Jonesy’s memories to navigate Earth. It’s also about a lifelong friendship between 4 guys and a magical Downs Syndrome guy.Throw in a maniacal Army leader, his brain washed compadres and the tale becomes even richer. Their “mission accomplished theme song” – The Rolling Stones – Sympathy For The Devil could not be more perfect.Loved it!

⭐All of Stephen King’s books, regardless of length or genre, are riveting. Dreamcatcher is no exception. It’s a little gross in places but keeps your attention throughout. This time we are dealing with a group of four men, each with some small exceptional ability, who, on their annual hunting trip in the Maine woods, happen to get caught up in an alien invasion. There is also a military man who calls himself Kurtz. He is a specialist in alien invasions. Mention is made of Area 51. Kurtz prides himself on always getting his man, or alien, or whatever. But he uses controversial methods, and he will take whatever steps he feels are necessary, including killing his own people, to make sure that nobody outside of his operation finds out what he has done. The aliens are frightening and gross, but with a man like Kurtz on the job, who needs enemies? If there were really a real person like him, much of the mystery surrounding Area 51 would begin to make sense. For the hunters, there is one other person they have in common, a retarded boy they befriended back when they were in middle school, more or less. The boy they know as Duddits. For all that he is retarded, Duddits also has some exceptional abilities. The other boys rescued him from a bunch of bullies and befriended him. And, although he is now dying himself, he comes out to help them in the fight against the aliens when they need him.

⭐This was a great book. My husband (at The time) and I took 2 months traveling Shenandoah and Ohio valley area, this was a major entertainment for The both of us. Me not a big Steven King fan I loved it. The narrator did an excellent job puncuating, keeping with the dialog of each page and character. Changing my overall opinion from poor to pretty good on audio book. I have recommended it to multiple people especially those I know that are not big readers and they enjoyed as well.

⭐Very good book so far. Not done

⭐I know a lot of people may see this as one of King’s lesser novels, but I really love this story. It has a few elements that I think he used again in Under the Dome, but it is an involving story that drew me right in.For diehard King fans, there are some of those wonderful hints that show that this book ties in with IT/The Dar Tower series.

⭐Stephen King is a true master storyteller. He never disappoints with his narrative. His insights into human nature are brilliant. Don’t cheat yourself by not reading Dreamcatcher. The only thing to fear is fear itself

⭐I was warned that this book was one of Stephen King’s worst. So I started it with no expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not one of his best, but it’s certainly not his worst. It was written soon after his now famous accident, and you can feel his pain being transferred onto the page. I think he had to write this book as a kind of mental rehab. It shows. But worth a read if you’re a Stephen king completist.

⭐I thought I had read this because it has some threads from other SK stories but it all came out as a fresh engaging yarn. The threads are alien visitors, unpleasant Army forces and telepathy but woven into a tale of childhood and memories.Well worth rereading. If it has a fault it’s slightly too long but still engrossing.

⭐As many have said it may not be the best book written by Stephen King but certainly very enjoyable. As always the characters shine through and I always feel a little sad leaving them behind.Great ending too which cannot always be said for his books.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

⭐A great book. Recently became interested in reading more of King’s works and Dreamcatcher has turned out to be the perfect fiction for those who are decidedly creeped out by alien encounters and body horror. In line with what I’ve come to expect from this author’s works, the content is strong, the language stronger and everyone is appropriately grim, psychic, and/or insane. It will keep me up at night for sure and thus has done it’s job well!

⭐Myself I love Stephen King and his writing he has great books a brilliant author and would recommend to all
