Description

Hotshot San Diego sports agent Shaw Matthews and his sexy professional adversary Cassidy Whalen have gone head-to-head in the boardroom—and the bedroom. Now Shaw has scored a big promotion—but only because Cassidy turned it down and ran off. There are many things he wants when it comes to Cassidy—just not her pity. So Shaw rushes to a small town in Maine to retrieve his dignity—and maybe the woman he’s hungry to claim once more.

Cassidy has pushed herself to the max to realize her career dreams—until a family crisis brings her home. But Shaw isn’t letting Cassidy go that easily. Neither is gorgeous heartthrob Casey Michaels, the childhood sweetheart she left behind—and who now wants to win her back. As the rivalry between the two alpha males intensifies, and Shaw’s seductive moves reach a whole new level of heat, Cassidy has to make a choice. And this time, it’s for the highest stakes of all.

User’s Reviews

Praise for Getting Rough “The second Monkey Business contemporary (after Playing Dirty) plunges right into the multifaceted liaison between Shaw Matthews and Cassidy Whalen, secret lovers and openly competitive business associates, as heartfelt emotions, misconceived assumptions, and natural disasters make for rough adventures. . . . [C. L.] Parker’s fast pace, rapier wit, and sharp dialogue perfectly merge with the simmering sexual tension in this lust-to-love tale that fans will devour.”—Publishers Weekly “Forces of nature conspire to represent the deep emotional involvement between the main characters in this hot-blooded novel by Parker. Mother Nature is also the perfect foil to the lives of the varied inhabitants of this sexy tale. The title is apt as the lovemaking grows from sweet to wild for each willing participant.”—RT Book

⭐ This was one of those books that I couldn’t get enough of but yet didn’t want it to end. I LOVED IT!! This is the 2nd in the series and picked up where the last book left off. I enjoyed Cassidy and Shaw. Their banter is fun to watch and I love how Shaw likes the strong willed Cassidy. He doesn’t try to change her but knows exactly how to handle her and knows her well enough to know what she needs as well.I was worried with the way the last book ended, but here we see Cassidy at home, among family, and Shaw goes after her. They find more than they were looking for and circumstances force them to see what’s in front of them. We get a clearer picture as to their pasts and see what makes them the way they are. This book is sweet, sexy, sometimes frustrating, and you can’t help but cheer for these characters.

⭐ I really enjoyed this book. It really was a lot more in depth with each character than the the first. I’m only giving it 4 stars because I felt the beginning was a slow starter, and a bit monotonous. However, once it got going, it did not stop. Shaw and Cassidy really grow as a couple in this book. We also learn a lot more about Casey. Through a hurricane they all come together and do what they can to keep Cassidy and Casey’s hometown from being destroyed and then do what they can to bring it back together. It definitely keeps you glued until the end, and a wonderful ending indeed. I can’t wait to read the third installment. I most definitely will refer this to my family and friends.

⭐ I love reading series so from the first book I already knew I would love Getting Rough. I am a sucker for a good romance novel. This one definitely met my expectations. There wasn’t a moment that I was anticipating the next move. I loved the element of surprise the most, the reaction Cassidy had to seeing Shaw in her home was well worth the wait. I’m looking forward to seeing how these two end up with their little family.

⭐ CL Parker is truly amazing in the way she writes. Getting Rough is the sequel to Playing Dirty, and it was incredible! The book continues Shaw Matthews and Cassidy Whalens story, and is just as funny, hot, steamy, heartwarming, and hear wrenching as the first book. I absolutely loved the way the story took the couple to Stonington, Maine, and the antics that really brought them together. I found myself in a range of emotions while reading, ranging from hysterically laughing to grabbing for the box of tissues. The story actually ends up breaking up into two different stories, two that you will absolutely love. This author sucks you in with the humor she writes into her characters, I LOVED IT! When you hit the end of the book, you definitely want more!!!! I also loved that she put the Prologue to the third book in this story, cannot wait until it comes out! The only negative I have is that I need to wait for book 3!I received this ARC book I exchange for an honest review, read the book, you definitely won’t be sorry!

⭐ another good book from this author

⭐ Who wouldn’t like Cassidy, I mean really. Shaw is so sexy, how could any woman resist his charms.Great book, on to #3

⭐ “It’s the eye of the storm,” he whispered. “But it isn’t over yet. In fact, things are about to get rough again. Are you ready?”I certainly thought I was ready, but I had no idea what I was actually getting myself into emotionally. Getting Rough, as mentioned by C.L. Parker in her Author’s Notes, was a very personal journey of breaking down walls, coming to accept new things in life, and, ultimately, taking exactly what you want out of that life. I cannot even begin to describe how evident she made that for her readers throughout the whole story and, thinking back on it, now everything makes a whole lot more sense. The heart that she poured into this book is what makes it a 6+++ star favorite for me. Not only did she have me laughing hysterically at Shaw and his antics and thoughts, but also hoping for so much more from two characters who could not have been more perfect for one another. It is rough at some points (as the title suggests) with two such dominant characters vying for what they think will fulfill their lives while allowing their stubborn personalities to crush all thoughts of happiness at the same time; Shaw’s broken past that has led him to a guarded present and Cassidy’s fairytale upbringing that is keeping her from finding her true Happily Ever After. As we move through the book, we see old walls crumbling and new ones being forged with the love of family (and unofficial family), acceptance of a past that is no more, and the hope of a future that can heal two lost souls. The chemistry and banter between the H and h, although expected by how amazing it was in the first book. was even better this time around. Being in a different setting with more personal realizations coming to the forefront made it possible for reality to break through and knock both Shaw and Cassidy on their asses. It was fabulous to experience since I’m sure most readers, myself included, wanted them to recognize exactly what we have been seeing in two books now. I have to say that I loved everything about this book; from the lightheartedness to the more serious and then to the most serious, the childhood fantasies that became reality, and the lust that turned into love. This book had it all for me and I would be remiss if I didn’t put my highest recommendation behind it. Well done, once again, Ms. Parker. I will be one of the first to pick up Coming Clean upon release!*I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

⭐ I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The 2 most important things about this book:- There’s another cliffhanger at the end, and it’s just as painful / frustrating as the last one.- There’s also a Grease reference, which makes everything okay, because Grease is the word. That you heard. So yeah.Authors, if you’re going to give me a cliffhanger, peppering it with showtune lyrics will make me not care. (Although it did stir up some of the nerves I have about this weekend’s Grease Live – I want it to be good! But what if it isn’t?)You know how some people say to deliver bad news with food (this might’ve only been with Joey on Friends, now that I think about it…)? With me, you deliver it with jazz hands. This book was waaay different than the first, but not in a good or bad way, just different.Playing Dirty focused mostly on the professional aspects of Shaw and Cassidy starting a relationship, and discovering the physical chemistry. Now that they’re in Cassidy’s hometown and away from work, and the physical chemistry has been firmly established, they’re trying to figure out the emotional and mental stuff. The chemistry between them is different – not always trying to hide emotion anymore – in a better way.And especially with Cassidy’s ex thrown in the mix, that makes for a pretty interesting story.Cassidy got really annoying though, getting a little “I don’t want you but no one else can have you” with said ex.But the steam and chemistry was still there, and with Shaw and Cassidy heading back to work with another twist thrown in (hey, cliffhanger), I can’t not read the next book. 🙂

⭐ This story takes place in Cassidy’s hometown of Maine. It is a very close knit lobster community. Because the author did a good job describing the setting, it was easy to picture it in your head. In the beginning it was hard for me to relate to the characters. I think it was because this was the second book in a series. While the author does give you some background on Cassidy and Shaw, I think it would have been better if I had read the first book. I just didn’t feel the connection between these two. However as the story progressed though, I was able to feel a better connection between Shaw and Cassidy. When Shaw arrived at the bed and breakfast Cassidy’s family owns he was intense. He was very angry. It’s like they jumped on each other the minute he arrived. I thought that was a little bit much but again I think if I knew a little more of their dynamics it would have helped. There are a number of secondary characters that are an integral part of the story (Casey, Mia). Shaw is quick to pick up on the fact Casey, Cassidy’s best friend, is in love with her. This of course brings out the dominance between the two, wanting to stake their claim. So can you imagine all the chest thumping that goes on between these two? In the beginning Shaw was a little rough around the edges but as the story progressed he became really sweet. He easily became part of Cassidy’s and Casey’s family. Overall, it turned out to be a good story. Little slow in the beginning but then picked up. The only issue I have is it ended on a cliffhanger.

⭐ ***I received a copy of this book from the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!***This is book 2 in the Monkey Business Trio Series, and we have finally caught up with sworn enemies turned lovers, Shaw and Cassidy. After all of the competition at their work in the first book, the second part of their story takes us in another direction. At the end of Book 1, Cassidy got some upsetting news and returned home to be with her family. Knowing that he only got the promotion because Cassidy left doesn’t sit well with Shaw, so he takes off after Cassidy to get to the bottom of things. He expects that antagonistic, sarcastic blend of passion and lust from Cassidy that he is used to, after all they are the king and queen of one-upping another…what he doesn’t expect is someone trying to slip into the space he didn’t know that he had left vacant in Cassidy’s bed or life. Knowing that there are other equally hot, talented, and determined men interested in filling that role makes him realize that she has come to mean more to him than he ever could have imagined. What ensues is a different type of competition-one for Cassidy’s heart. Who will come out on top, and who will be left in the dust…only time will tell. Two people playing a game is dangerous enough, but add in some new players and tensions are bound to explode. More laughter, drama, passion, and hijinx ensue…suit up! If you enjoyed the banter between Shaw and Cassidy in the first book, there is more fun to be had. Go get your copy today!
