Description

This time it’s strictly business. Former policewoman Glen is now a PI too, and with a much classier clientele than Cliff’s – she’s been told ‘money’s no object’ by her latest, a wealthy family from Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Together, Cliff and Glen take on the case of Rodney St John Harkness, recent inmate of a mental institution and a recovering alcoholic with a murky, possibly murderous, history. But Glen is also a recovering alcoholic – and the combination proves disastrous. When Rod and Glen vanish, Hardy finds himself in a race against time to untangle Harkness’ tortured past and find the pair. The trail leads up to the central coast and some of Sydney’s best-known beaches. Will Cliff be in time, or will the ‘salty tang of blood’ fill the air?

⭐ Another Peter Corris thriller based round Sydney, Australia, written in fair dinkum aussie-speak. Cliff Hardy, the ant-hero, always manages to get into the upper echelons of society and bring them down to earth. His Ford Falcon is always on its last legs, yet his deprecating manner keeps it going and also fires up the leading females, quite tastefully, too

⭐ I like Peter Corris for his easy Aussie style. He is easy to read, writes a good yarn and the character Cliff hardy is a likeable and believable rogue. 10 out of 10 for mine.

⭐ Intriguing fast paced and enjoyable

⭐ Had not read any of the Cliff Hardy series before. Like Corris’s style and his character. Now going back to start at the beginning and get to know a new friend’. Love it when you discover an author who’s been around for a while but you just never got around to reading any of his work and when you do, being pleasantly surprised.

⭐ I always enjoy a Peter Corris book! He writes a great detective novel and I love Cliff Hardy. It’s also more interesting when his stories are set in your own home city!

⭐ All Cliff Hardy books are great. They relate to the era I grew up in. I love the realism. Poor bugger can’t keep a woman though

⭐ Tired and plodding. Seemed lost for an ending which is barely stitched up in the last page or so. Cliff should have retired a few cases ago

⭐ ok

⭐ poorly written contrived
