Description

For every Pratchett fan, the must-have fully updated guidebook to Discworld! The Discworld, as everyone knows, is a flat world balanced on the backs of four elephants which, in turn, stand on the shell of the giant star turtle, the Great A’Tuin, as it slowly swims through space. It is also a global publishing phenomenon with sales of nearly 85 million books worldwide (and counting). With 39 books in the canon, not including the various guides, maps, diaries, and other tie-in volumes, there’s a lot of Discworld to keep track of—more than most fans can manage without magic.Turtle Recall is the ultimate authority on probably the most heavily populated—certainly the most hilarious—setting in fantasy literature and includes a guide to Discworld locales from Ankh-Morpork to Zemphis, as well as information to help you distinguish Achmed the Mad from Jack Zweiblumen and the Agatean Empire from the Zoons. Plus much, much more.Covering everything from The Colour of Magic, the first Discworld novel, through Snuff!, Turtle Recall: The Discworld Companion . . . So Far is the most up-to-the-minute encyclopedia of Terry Pratchett’s extraordinary universe available.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐In 1983, the Science Fiction Book Club had as a featured novel

⭐. I ordered it, read it and have never looked back. Through some 40 Discworld books, a dozen or more diaries like the

⭐, various maps like

⭐, very bad cookbooks like

⭐and more, I’ve bought them all. Including two earlier editions of the Discworld Companion. I have sagging shelves of Pratchettania. So why buy

⭐? Well, apart from the wonderfully dreadful pun in the title, this collection brings your Discworld trivia up to

⭐, the latest Discworld novel. And its restores a number of characters and places that had been dropped from the earlier editions for lack of space. And there is a spiffy detailed map to downtown Ankh-Morpork, the largest city on the Discworld. Pratchett contributed to many of the entries, and his trademark humor, word play and even footnotes are present. The usual warnings apply. This is a book for Discworld fans. I don’t think you have to be a convention-attending, costume-waring hopeless fan to qualify. But it’s really only useful to folks who have read many of the Discworld novels. And for any fan, you can lose a lot of time, chasing through linked references, and being led to re-reads of novels you had nearly forgotten.Terrific fun for the fan, and a masterful collection.

⭐This is a reference book for Disc World. I absolutely love the writing of Terry Pratchett. I have all the novels in this series, which is extensive. His writing just keeps getting better, sharper and funnier. But this is just an index. It could disappear tomorrow and nothing would be lost. I bought it because of the Pratchett name and was disappointed by the content.

⭐I used to have an older copy of either this book or one very similar. Unfortunatly, I lost it on a bus and neve saw it again. Since I used to read that book constantly, and being a huge fan of terry pratchett, I was so glad to find this book. I own 6 discworld books and have read most of the others .Awesome reference work for a fictional universe!

⭐Great companion for me as I re-read the Discworld series. I’ve never re-read anything before, and always wondered why my husband seemed to enjoy it. It is truly amazing what I missed or forgot the first time around. There are so many characters and places to look up, and some of the entries provide a great, long read by themselves.I originally read the series primarily using the lovely L-space Reading Order Guide, which organizes the books by characters / theme. This time I’m reading in order of publication, and have also added the “Science of Discworld” books which I hadn’t read before. Turtle Recall is great to turn to when I want my memory refreshed about a character or event that comes up again. I’ve found the occasional error or broken cross-reference in here, but overall it is a valuable addition that is giving me a great deal of enjoyment as I work through the series again. It may have provided too many spoilers splashed across all the pages if I’d had it when I was first reading the series. To really go all-out on a re-reading project, I also recommend “The Turtle Moves”. It is by an American author, and provides a brief synopsis of each story. I use it as my guide to story order, and enjoy the author’s insights into the development of the characters and the different stages of the storytelling.

⭐This is a book about Discworld; it is NOT a novel of Discworld. In other words, it’s more like an encyclopedia than a novel. I’m not finished reading it, but so far it’s been fun. I highly recommend it to readers who have read one or two of the Discworld books and find they are getting lost in all the characters.

⭐Can’t say more than that I smiled the entire time I went through this book (over and over) – great fun as a review – great fun as a preview – great fun as a reference. GOTTA LOVE THE DISC!

⭐I adore this book. It’s really something meant for existing and well-read fans of Discworld. Without a lot of context already assumed, it’s a rather strange collection of anecdotes and characters. Having read every Discworld novel, I was still surprised to read things I’d forgotten, or that I swear I never knew.

⭐On time and as described.

⭐Really useful for chasing up some of the esoterica of Discworld. Sadly the paperback received the now all too usual treatment from Amazon of having front and back covers bent and creased over when shoved in postage box as worker’s don’t have the time to be more careful: I don’t blame them, it’s the working practices that are at fault.

⭐Turtle Recall, The Discworls Companion … So Far arrived on time and in very good condition seeing it is a second hand book. This is a brilliant book for any Discworld fan,its the perfect book for reference purposes and to be reminded of people, things and other details in Discworld, if like me youre getting a little forgetful, comes with age and fibro im afaraid1, The only thing i will say that youve probably got to be a Discworld fan for the book to make any sense, but i am enjoying greatly popping in and out. I love Terry Pratchetts Discworld . 5 stars +++

⭐Though intended for dipping into, I found a straight read through a delightful memory-jogger. References several books I have yet to read (a few of which I have now ordered through Amazon), and understandably will need updating to include Raising Steam and (we hope) more. If you’ve forgotten who Bravd the Hublander is and where you first met him, this is the book for you. I loved showing the title to people; it usually raises a laugh, even if you have to explain what the Discworld is – most folks have seen the Schwartzenegger film.

⭐this is one to dip in and out of rather than sit down and read. I’m a massive discworld fan and have read everything, most of it several times, and this is the perfect book to live in the bathroom and be reminded of things, people and details that you’d either forgotten, or dearly love. wasn’t sure at first but I’m a convert. recommended (although I think you’d have to be a pretty die-hard fan for it to make any sense — if you haven’t read much discworld, read it all and then get this!)

⭐I bought this for my husband and he’s really enjoyed reading it.
