Description

Chloe Carmichael’s life feels pretty sweet—she’s both maid of honor and florist for her best friend’s A-list wedding, things are getting serious with her boyfriend, and her flower shop is about to get a spread in a national magazine. But it all quickly turns sour whenever the best man, Bad Habit drummer A.J. Edwards, shows his face…his handsome, unforgettable face. A.J. is everything Chloe doesn’t want: tattooed, selfish, and all-around bad news. So why can’t she stop thinking about him?

Goody two-shoes Chloe isn’t exactly A.J.’s type, either, but the chemistry between them is undeniable. A.J. will be the first to say he isn’t a saint, but there’s something he’s not saying—something that would devastate Chloe. The only way he can protect her is to push her away, but the drummer finds he needs her now more than ever. When a wedding-day confrontation reveals secrets they’re both hiding, will Chloe and A.J. ever find their rhythm again?

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Another reviewer puts this well – the author has talent but she uses a sledgehamner when a bit of finesse and nuance would result in a more compelling story. This story is another example of the sledgehammer approach- she doesn’t just give her H a horrific past, she gives him an ugly persona in the present and a bleak future, resulting in a lot of almost unforgivable behaviour from him. Add to this the h’s crazed ex and there is just too much going on to make this a heartbreaking romance with a troubled H turned good. Instead it is just a mess of unbelievable and histrionic events. I also have an issue with romances that are centered around the H being drawn to the h for something completely outside her control, rather than it being about her actions and how she treats others and her outlook on the world. Often it is the h’s looks; in this case it is her voice. This plot device might be ok if the H then falls for who the h really is when he gets to know her better but in this case the h is nice enough but really there is nothing particularly inspiring about her to explain why such a troubled H would be so taken by her. The author also has a habit of starting the h off strong but she then becomes weak and mushy around the H, allowing him to get away with too much and suspending her previously rational behaviour.Still I read to the end and was mildly entertained so there are some positives to the story if you can suspend belief for long enough.

⭐ After really enjoying Book 1 in this series, I had high hopes for the follow up. I liked it, but didn’t love it like I did Nico and Kat’s story. Make Me Sin had a lot of promise (warning – slight spoilers below) – a cold drummer with a secretive, troubled past who is smitten with our heroine. His backstory, however, became a bit too over the top for me. A.J.’s a drummer in the hottest band of the moment, but lives a hermit lifestyle in a dilapidated former hotel in the middle of nowhere because he feels it matches his broken personality. He has a secret past where he grew up in Russia as a street fighter. Add to that his penchant for hanging around prostitutes because his mother was one and they give him the emotional distance he needs whilst providing companionship. It was an interesting take, but the added drama just didn’t fit the persona of a famous drummer. A.J. thinks Chloe is special, so how does he treat her? Terribly. He’s cold and goes out of his way to be nasty because, you guessed it, he likes her so much but doesn’t want to get close to her. He goes to her late at night because he’s drawn to her, but doesn’t want her to get too attached. Because of this, A.J. was quite an aloof character and while I liked him for the most part, I didn’t find I had a connection with him like I did Nico in Book 1.Chloe had a boyfriend who for all intents and purposes seemed like a solid guy in the former installment. In Book 2, he turns into a home devil. Little tid bits were added here and there so we start thinking he’s not a nice guy, mainly so the reader is okay with her having feelings for A.J. I liked Chloe, but there were a couple of parts in the book where she spoke terribly to and about hookers that didn’t gel with her nice girl persona. I get that she was jealous, but the way her poor attitude was written was not only a bit ridiculous, but made me dislike her a little.A.J. ends up pretending to cheat on Chloe so that she can walk away from him as he doesn’t want to hurt her in the long term. This drove me crazy at the time, but it was resolved well enough, although not particularly originally. There was quite a lot of angst and unrequited feelings and some of the back and forth became a bit tiring, but it was entertaining enough to keep my interest.Overall, the book was a good read and I continue to enjoy this author, but there were a few things that kept it from being a 5 star read for me. I will eventually read the next book, but wasn’t a huge fan of Grace’s character in the first two books so am not in a rush to get to it.

⭐ I really liked this story. The second book in the Bad Habit series.A bittersweet, enemies to lovers story. I had a really hard time putting this book down.A.J. and Chloe’s story was sweet, dark, angsty, full of drama and heartbreak. If you like a story that is going to tear at your heart and soul, this is your book.A.J. is one beautiful, broken soul. Chloe is just the glue he needs to repair what has been badly broken.Chloe has always been the happy carefree, optimistic one. Never having a bad word to say about anyone. She cannot understand A.J.’s instant hatred of her. The wedding of one of her best friends and his band mate forces them to work together.A.J.’s backstory is heart wrenching and horrific. Growing up the way he did, forced into doing unthinkable things to survive, he has kept himself isolated and alone in order to protect those he cares about. Knowing he brings only death in his wake.Until Chloe sits him down and goes through all of his past, putting fresh eyes and a new perspective on his sins. Trying to convince him that maybe he’s not cursed, but instead, blessed.I actually loved both A.J. and Chloe. They were real, handled their issues in a real, plausible way. Maybe not the smartest way, but real for them. Yes, A.J. was a jerk. Having a few chapters from his point of view helped tremendously. They have a rough road getting to their bittersweet, but happy ending.I loved catching up with Nico and Kat, finally getting to their wedding.Issues I had with this book. The scene A.J. sets up to break up with Chloe was cruel and uncalled for. If you want to end a relationship, be a man and just end it. Don’t do what he did. Cowardly.Like others have noted, there is a lot thrown into this book. Pick a problem and one of the main characters at some point experiences it. Almost too much to be believable. And there is the minor cliffhanger. Don’t make me have to buy the next book to find what happens. I will be buying it, I’m really enjoying this series. Just don’t make have to.Overall I liked the book, it was difficult to read at points, but was well written.

⭐ The 2 book in the Bad Habit series. I loved this book. AJ the Drummer from the band has had a problem with Chloe (one of Kat’s BFFs) since book 1 Sweet as Sin (Kat and Nico’s story)…Not just a problem he can’t stand being anywhere near her. Chloe is fine with not be near him so much so she is currently dating a cop Eric (who is a little Cra-cra ok psycho). When she can’t take the psycho cop any longer she breaks up with him…AJ and Chloe are put together more than they want since she is planning the flowers for Kat and Nico’s wedding. Well you know the attraction is strong and let me tell you, you feel it!! They both fight it and sometimes its comical! But when Chloe is in trouble cause hello psyco cop reappears AJ comes to the rescue!! Heavy Sigh!!! They fall for each other of course but AJ is hiding something! When Chloe breaks up with him more heartache!! The wedding comes along and they are put together and BAM another twist!JT is full of them. Well written leaves you hanging from chapter to chapter! Love her stories and can’t wait for the final book in this series. This is a stand alone but I recommend reading in order! There is a slight cliffhanger that will be revealed (as promised) in book 3!!

⭐ ‘Make Me Sin’ by J.T. Geissinger triggers a whirlwind of feeling with a deeply emotional story of love, heartbreak, and hope. A follow up to ‘Sweet as Sin’ in her Bad Habit series, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect after hearing how much it ‘wrecked’ her to write this book, and I could not imagine what she had in store for for A.J. Edwards and Chloe Carmichael with them having so much animosity between them. In ‘Make Me Sin,’ Geissinger has gifted their beautiful, achingly tender, and touching journey crafted with many unique layers of character depth and suspense.Chloe Carmichael is a seemingly simple people pleaser who puts her heart and soul into building her successful floral business, and A.J. Edwards is a very tough and closed off yet talented musician who seems to detest Chloe and continuously throw insults at her. With their friends’ Kat and Nico’s wedding quickly approaching, they are constantly forced to be around each other being that they are Maid of Honor and Best Man. For some reason, A.J.’s aggression towards Chloe begins to ignite a certain fire (or misfire?) between the two of them, and she becomes determined to find out what his problem is with her. Although she sometimes gets small glimpses of a softer side to A.J., he continues to shut her out and push her away. Will she ever solve the puzzles that lie within him, and is it possible for them to build any type of civil relationship together? Some of my favorite things in Geissinger’s books are her unique and creative story lines and her character depth…Chloe had so much more determination and strong belief in A.J., and she was surprisingly undeterred in what others thought about her relationship with. him. He had such heart, tenderness, and passion in his soul, and it was very touching how he expressed it to Chloe in many unique ways through his words, the art of origami, and of course his music. It was so sad that deep within A.J. lay such an inner turmoil of self-loathing and hatred for himself stemming from his haunting past and resulted in his feelings of not deserving any happiness.Their story was so poetically written as it transformed from his troubled past and pain to the possibility of finding hope and having something beautiful. There was such an uncertainty in whether their love for each other could ever come to fruition and if A.J. would be able to get over the fears of his past and be able to take a chance on Chloe. It was absolutely impossible not to feel and be all encompassed with them in their struggle – it was so heart breaking!Honestly, I was completely unprepared for the unexpected relationship between Chloe and A.J. Geissinger completely drew me in and kept me turning page after page with suspense and yearning for the answers. Just when I thought I was getting them, I was completely thrown off course with yet another unexpected turn. ‘Make Me Sin’ had me on pins and needles throughout, and I must say that it definitely touched my heart. I am so looking forward to her next book in this series not only to see if there will be a HEA for Chloe and A.J. but also what lies ahead for Grace and Brody!Absolutely a 5-Star read for ‘Make Me Sin’, and I definitely recommended reading the Bad Habit Series!***ARC kindly provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

⭐ My Review:Wow, I’m not even sure where to begin with this book. It was so freaking good and it started out that way, but then it just kept getting better and better and better. By the end of the book, I was sobbing. So good, so emotional. There was so much to this story and these characters…and seriously, so much of it kept me gasping over the emotion.A.J. and Chloe hate one another. But she has no idea why. She just knows that he literally spews hatred at her when he’s near her. Every single other person in her world likes her. She doesn’t understand it at all. As far as she knows, she didn’t do anything to cause it.But there’s so much more than the interesting undercurrents between them. A.J. is the drummer for the band Bad Habit, but he has an interesting skill. He literally sees music. He also has a completely mysterious background. It’s clear that his wikipedia history for him isn’t quite the truth, but what is the truth? No one truly knows. The only thing anyone does know is that A.J. is a big, surly beast with a penchant for tattoos and high-price prostitutes…not exactly romantic interest material, especially when Chloe has a perfectly good boyfriend who’s totally into her and has a respectable job as a cop. But that doesn’t stop her from fantasizing about A.J. at the most inopportune moments. There are so many highlights to this book, but I’m going to mention my favorites:*AJ’s home…wow, I was enthralled by the images the author painted of where he lives. It’s so magical and mystical, especially in how it relates to A.J. and how he sees himself.*in the background of this story is the wedding planning for Nico and Kat. I loved that we got to see so much of that. I loved their story in the first book, so it was awesome that they played such a huge role in this book.*It’s obvious from the very beginning that A.J. is seriously torn. The author wrote his angst so beautifully and perfectly. My heart hurt throughout so much of this story (and I love it when I get that emotionally involved.)The book is told almost entirely from Chloe’s point of view, but there are tiny little chapters thrown in from A.J.’s point of view. I loved how the author did that because I do love those little glimpses into his thoughts. They were like sweet little chocolate nuggets thrown into the story. It was so, so, so good. I highly recommend this one.I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review, but as soon as I finished the book I got online and preordered a copy of the book in print for my keeper shelf.

⭐ I read the first book in the Bad Habit series and it was good, but Make Me Sin was excellent. Most of the time, I felt as if I was at the very top of a rollercoaster ride waiting to drop. It was sad; heart wrenching. I could feel all of A.J.’s pain and his desperation to cling to something that would not let him go. I wanted to comfort him. I’m glad that he allowed Chloe to come into his life. I’m glad that he did not let all of the darkness take complete control.I felt deep sadness after reading this because I was not expecting some of the things that happened. Talk about being thrown for a loop? Well, I was thrown, stampeded, and crushed. And I kept saying “Why? No, something is going to be different.” I wondered how could this be a love story. It is definitely a story of love, even if it does not come wrapped in a package that the reader does not expect.

⭐ Chloe: beautiful, sweet, giving, caring, privilegedAJ: brooding, secretive, intimidating, intriguing, soulful yet simultaneously self loathing, painedAJ, the band’s drummer, has a unique gift known as chromesthesia whereby he sees vivid colors associated with sound. This fact does not play a large role in this story over all but I choose to mention it because as AJ opens up to Chloe about his past, his story can only be compared to a skin ulcer initially inflamed and swollen only to crack open to an oozing, festering deep wound!!! Without divulging any details, as AJ’s past is exposed THIS is my mental image associated with his revelations! For lovers of romance novels with a HEA, readers will be both satisfied and left with a heavy heart. This is by no means a lighthearted, easy read. The tortured character of AJ and the loving spirit of Chloe compounded with the antics of Chloe’s ex, Eric, keep the reader on a roller coaster of emotions from beginning to end. As with Ms. Geissinger’s other books there are, for lack of a better description, pearls of wisdom to be internalized and digested. “Nothing in life is either black or white. Only gray.” As I progressed through this story, I became more and more conscious of the reality of that thought. For Audible users I would like to add that the narration was mediocre. I, personally, did not care for the voice of AJ. I would have given this book 5 stars instead of 4 if there were a little more humor and bantering which Ms. Geissinger is genius at penning to balance out the seriousness in the story. Otherwise, great job, as usual!

⭐ After reading and enjoying the first book of this series ‘Sweet as sin’, I was really looking forward to reading this story about Chloe and bad boy drummer A.J. And just like in the first story there was a lot happening throughout the story. Every time I thought that I knew where the story was going, it would change and take a different direction! Just like in the first book, this story had his fun moments and his emotional ones. The story is mostly told from Chloe’s POV and I liked that. That made A.J. that more mysterious to us. And I really loved mysterious A.J.. His mysterious past is revealed to us, bit by bit and it’s heart breaking. I really loved the chemistry between Chloe and A.J. and the fun banter between the girls and the boys and between the couples. There is no cheating in the story.Although I enjoyed the many different surprises in this book, I did have a moment that I thought that maybe there were a bit too much surprises in it. But still, I had fun with it all.So, if you love stories where a lot is happening in it than the ‘Bad habit’ series is something for you.

⭐ Great book! Some tearjerker moments then some, wait, what the fk just happened! moments. The only issue I had was the ending seemed a little rushed. Without giving it away, this man faces some challenges and he’s accepted whats to come, despite what everyone else urges him to do. Then bam, he changes his mind all on a dime. It just didnt make sense. He shouldve changed his mind when he met the woman of his dreams. But nope, he decided to be a stubburn turd and do his thing. Anyway, it made for an abrupt final 10% But still – great book.
