Description

Perfect for readers of Colleen Hoover, Jay Crownover, and K. A. Tucker, the first novel in this darkly sexy contemporary series from bestselling author Monica Murphy kicks off an emotionally powerful two-part tale of forbidden love.

Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I’m a fifteen-year-old again–the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She’s grown-up now–beautiful, quiet, composed–and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.

I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she’s safe.

Somehow we reconnect. We become friends . . . but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.

So, yeah, I’m stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she’ll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.

My father.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ First off, this book ends on a cliffhanger. I didn’t realize this was part one of a two part or more series. I would not have read it had I known or at least waited until all books were available. The story is told in alternating points of view. You also alternate between the past and the present in the unfolding of the story. There is a lot of internal dialogue and little dialogue between the characters so I found myself skimming a lot to get to the story of Katie and Will which really begins at the end of the book.Katie is a 12 year old girl when she is abducted at an amusement part, held captive and raped by Will’s father. Will is 15 at the time and he finds her and takes her to the police. The police also believe he is a part of her abduction and he finds out his father has done this in the past to at least 3 other girls who he killed. Will was thrown into the foster system and has since changed his name to Ethan and owns his own web design company.8 years pass and Katie is attending college online and still trying to deal with her past and seeing a psychiatrist. She decides to give an interview on tv thinking it will help her to move on by telling her story. Will sees it and decides to try to find her. They wrote to each other for a few years after it happened and they had somewhat of a connection. He finds her when she is back at the amusement park trying to face her fears and helps her when a gang of kids are trying to steal her purse. They begin a slow relationship, coffee, texting, a movie, dinner and then out to a club. Katie trusts him enough to tell him who she is and what happened to her and they move it to the next level. The next morning she sees a text on his phone from the lady that interviewed her asking if this is the old number for Will. She is devastated and leaves. Hence CLIFFHANGER! UGH!

⭐ Not suitable for any young woman who has experienced sexual trauma. For those who are blessed enough not to be carrying that burden….The premise is incredibly intriguing, and powerful, and told in a way that feels authentic. However, there are some seemingly “easy” steps Katie takes in overcoming what is otherwise depicted as a believably traumatized heart, body, and mind. The sexual predator isn’t sensationalized, and the effects of her trauma are seemingly comprehensive and realistic–in every way except in her response to Ethan. While I found the development of their relationship believable, I found myself constantly questioning her lack of barriers with Ethan, and her willingness to be completely different with him than with anyone else, even before their relationship developed. It seemed too easy, given the severe trauma she suffered. And while I know this is based on actual neurological and body-memory science, it still never quite bridged the gap between what I know to be true, and what the character wanted me to believe was true.If you can set that aside, it’s a deliciously tense romance that will keep you turning pages late into the night.

⭐ Well the loss of sleep was totally worth it in order to finish reading this amazing story. If I was looking for a roller coaster emotion read this was it but there was something else that I found hope. I hoped that she would be able to move forward and finally find that one person that she had a strong connection to but in the end things didn’t go exactly how I hoped. When I started reading this story I did so without even reading the synopsis because I knew that no matter what this story was about I would love it. The storyline was amazing and the characters were even better. I loved that this story was not only told in both of their point of views but also when they were just teenagers when she was taken and when he found her. I knew that when Katie started her story that I would be in tears that there would be a point that I would stop reading because I needed to gather my thoughts. Then Ethan “Will” comes to the story and just like Katie had said he was a guardian angel. But even though she was able to get reunited with her family nothing was ever the same. Her best friend was no longer her best friend and the one man that she loved with all her heart couldn’t even look at her in other words she wished she would have just died. But then something amazing happens Ethan and Katie cross paths but she doesn’t know that he is actually is Will. They have a great time together and she is having fun and she is actually attracted to this man and she is having these thoughts that she never thought she would. I was so happy for her and I loved seeing her happy and even when she became mad I was happy. But then things went downhill on a beautiful night secrets are never good to keep.Never Tear Us Apart was an amazing read even though it was full of emotional heartache. I was drawn to this read from the very beginning and I was saddened at the end because I had to wait to see what would happen. Ms. Murphy’s writing is exceptional and flawless. The characters were well developed and the chemistry between Ethan and Katie is sensual. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!I totally recommend this read!

⭐ Not only was this a very well written story, it was full of surprises. It’s a shocking story full of twists, turns, and some very unthinkable situations. I was also quite stunned with the way things turned out, but really taken aback by each character. Each character unfolds a little more of what we are given in these pages. They hold a key to the present, but most importantly the present. They help to tell this story….I felt like this book started out super strong, and trickled to a much slower pace as the story flowed. Yes the writing may have been very strong, but I needed a little bit more. This is a story that is highlighted more and more in our local news broadcasts or plastered all over the front pages of any newspapers. It’s sad and tragic, and most importantly eery. I would have liked to have more of the details unfold, but also more from the kidnapper. It would have given the story more depth needed to show the vulnerability from the heroin. And to shed a little more light on her, and not just the her of today, because we get plenty of that. I am talking about the girl of yesterday. The one who continues to lurk within todays shadows and stalls her from what could be.I feel as if this book was like an onion, the more you read the more the layers were peeled back to understand what could happen, and where things could lead. Each of the characters mentioned in this story give us a little sliver of hope, but they also give us the realness of what took place. There is an undertone that lingers throughout the story, it is devastating and heart-wrenching. Each chapter is filled with more of todays and yesterdays shadows, and sometimes it’s filled with the wish of tomorrow.I can say without a doubt, that this is a story not made for everyone. It is seated with deep issues and undesirable circumstances. It is a story that will break you. But, I also feel that it is a story that can give you a glimpse into what lies deep within each of us. Strength.

⭐ Oh, the feels! Such a painful subject matter, but Monica Murphy wrote this beautifully. Giving just the right amount of details to make us feel just enough. The switching of the narration (Present Katie, Past Katie, Present Ethan, Past Ethan) takes some getting used to, but it starts to flow quickly. This is one of my favorite Monica Murphy books! She created a whole new bundle of magic with suspenseful elements in this dark and emotional contemporary romance. This story is most definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s a story of a survivor coping with her dark past and finding how to live again in the world rather than merely existing.Katie Watts was abducted, beaten, and sexually abused at 12 years old. Her life as she knew it ended in the blink of an eye. It nearly ended for good had it not been for the young boy who’s father was her abductor. Will couldn’t just stand by and allow his monster of a father to do horrendous things to the innocent girl in the shed.Eight years later, and Will has become Ethan. He’s changed his identity and entire life in an attempt to leave his haunting past behind. Despite that, he can’t shake the memory of the beautiful girl’s face from all those years ago. She called him her guardian angel, and perhaps that’s why he still feels the strong urge to check up on her.Katie has had a rougher time, going through therapy and dealing with her families reactions to her abduction. The media’s thirst for information is above all, the most suffocating. She hasn’t been able to embrace her teen and young adult years, because of the roadblocks that are her memories. But when she meets Ethan, he lights a spark in her that sets her determination to start anew in place. Trusting people has become a hindrance in her life, and knowing Ethan is hiding something holds her back from fully embracing this new potential relationship. This was a struggle to read. Not because it was badly written, but because of all the pain that radiates from the characters. This book is written from a dual point of view, so readers get to hear Will’s internal struggles which lend a completely different torment to the traumatic event. It’s not all about Katie’s suffering, which adds on to the already gut wrenching emotions we get from Katie. Will’s conflicting feelings about the truth and Katie were difficult to swallow but were also understandable. It was a very tough and rare situation that he was in. The connection between them was just too loud and unbreakable to ignore.Katie’s demons just shredded my heart. She was in constant turmoil from the moment she was kidnapped. Her nightmares were consistent in their pursuit.I had no idea where the story was going to go. It was unpredictable. The story also switches between past and present. It was a little confusing at first, because said parts are not written chronologically. But I was able to get caught up rather quickly. In the end I think it worked really well.Fast paced when needed and slower at times that deemed necessary. Never Tear Us Apart was engaging, emotionally driven, and complex.

⭐ This book started so good. I was hooked. Fast forward a few years and this book turned bad in me fast.It tarts of innocently enough, just curiosity about the girl he saved from his father but to me it turned “stalkerish”. When they finally meet he hides his true identity from her and their relationship went way to far with him still not coming clean and knowing what he is doing is wrong……still he doesn’t tell her.Overbearing family members make this book even harder to get through, Katy survived a horrific childhood trauma but they treat her like a child, it’s ridiculous.I have to tell her the truth…. tomorrow maybe…Come on, what the hell. The ending draws you in, you want to get the next book but I am going to resist. This book just really aggravated me. I spent most of the time rolling my eyes and cursing at Ethan.

⭐ The EMOTIONS! I went through so many feelings while reading this story… It was a difficult topic, but definitely not something that should be ignored.Katie was a normal 12 year old girl. She was enjoyed time with her family and spending time with her friends. This all changed in a matter of an afternoon. She was taken from a chipper, young woman to a scared, withdrawn, and isolated woman.Katie grew up to a woman and chose to tell her story. This is where her life begins again! It begins with more problems, more secrets, and more pain for her. She continues to try to come back to life after all the tragedy she faced, and she has to learn to trust again.Ethan is the man who jumps to Katie’s rescue. Ethan does everything he can to make her happy and keep her safe. This also helps him keep his past in the past. The two are linked by tragedy, but they do not know that, so they begin to get to know each other as an adult. This story was truly an emotional read that took me through anger, sadness, happiness, friendship, love… I was truly not sure where my heart would go but I know that I loved every bit of the story and couldn’t stop reading until I knew what happened with the story. The story was truly an emotional rollercoaster and life was definitely best with Ethan and Katie figured out how to exist as friends.Part 1 was a great beginning to the story!

⭐ Ethan and Katherine have both gone through a lot in their lives. This has led both of them to lead lonely lives, isolating themselves from others. The traumatic events of their past very much haunt all their moves in the present. This story is beautifully told by switching points of view and seamlessly flipping between the past and the present to fill in all the blanks. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything quite like this book and as soon as you’re done with the first one you will run to jump into book two.Ethan has parted with his old life. He has made a completely new name for himself and refuses to look back, until the day he sees Katherine’s face again. Once she’s back into the forefront of his mind, he develops an obsession to find out how she is now.Katherine has spent the past eight years in hiding. She’s been through something tragic and hasn’t fully let it go or moved on with her life. She hides in her house, and she hides behind her mother and sister, until the day she decides to do something about it. She thinks finally talking about everything that happened to her will provide a kind of closure, but she’s not ready for everything else that comes along with it.Once Ethan finds Katie again, he refuses to let her go. They develop a relationship and start seeing each other as permanent parts of each other’s life. Katie starts leaning more and more on Ethan and Ethan starts seeing forever with her. However, the deeper they get into this relationship, the harder the fall once the truth comes out. Ethan has kept big secrets from Katherine and doesn’t know if she’ll understand once the truth is out.I HATED Lisa so much! She needs to go away.

⭐ Wow! This is the only word I have for this book. I loved everything about it: the plot, the characters, the struggle to return to a normal life.Their story is one dictated by what everyone else will think and what everyone else tells them to do, but through each other they begin to live for themselves. The novel begins with Katie struggling to live a normal life after a tragic event. She longs to reconnect with Will, the boy that saved her. Katie eventually reaches the point where she decides to reclaim her life and runs into Ethan. She finally feels she can connect with him and begins to make attempts to live again, as he begins to help her heal. Ethan, however has a secret he is keeping from Katie.Ethan just wants to make sure she is okay, and that she is happy. But, his desire to check in on her only increases his desire to be with her. He knows he shouldn’t, but he can’t help himself. Some readers might find his motivation sick or inappropriate, but when people share tragic events, they are sometimes inexplicable drawn together. While others might not understand their connection or relationship, it is not theirs to understand. They didn’t experience the traumatic event, and should these people really be prevented from being with someone they care about because the public says it isn’t “right”? People need to hold onto love when it comes around, as long is it makes them better people. In this case, Katie and Ethan become better people.Of course all secrets come out in books, and this one is a doozy. The reveal of the secret causes the book to end in a cliffhanger, which is why I waited to read it until book two came out. It would have killed me to wait.I will admit that I have never read a book by Monica Murphy that I have disliked. This book is no exception! It is well written, and the story and characters are intriguing.

⭐ To be honest, I read the blurb for this book and was immediately captivated. There was just something about a girl not knowing she’s dating her real life ‘hero’ and of course you just have to know how she reacts when she does find out. Will she be happy? Will she wonder what took her so long to realize it? Will she be infuriated? Or relieved? Those questions are what kept me reading. It’s not easy for me to start a book and not be able to put it down. I read a lot of reviews where readers say, “I just couldn’t put the book down!” That’s not me. I have kids, errands, a job, chores, obligations, I most certainly can put a book down most of the time. Well, I can honestly say it wasn’t this one. I finished up dinner, cleaned the kitchen, got my kids settled and actually went to turn on a movie when the thought of this book kept nagging at me. So around 6pm I turned on my Kindle and began reading and I didn’t stop until I was finished. The first few pages had me enthralled with Katherine and her story. Kidnapped, tortured, and raped for days as a young child, it’s a mother’s worst nightmare.Saved by a boy she barely knew, he was her hero, her guardian angel. One she thought was lost forever, until she meets Ethan who bears some similarities to her angel but not completely. He brings her back to life, breathes air back into her, sets her mind at ease, and her body on fire. He awakens feelings in her that she never knew existed. She thought she was damaged goods until Ethan shows her what desire really is.Both haunted by the same convicted serial killer. You can’t help but wonder what happens next? The ending ripped me apart and now I desperately await the next book in this two part series.I’m a new reader of Monica Murphy’s and I can guarantee I’ll be reading more of her stories, especially the next one to this!
