From international bestseller Stephen King, a classic story that engages our emotions on the most primal level, a fairy tale grimmer than Grimm but aglow with a girl’s indomitable spirit. What if the woods were full of them? And of course they were, the woods were full of everything you didn’t like, everything you were afraid of and instinctively loathed, everything that tried to overwhelm you with nasty, no-brain panic. The brochure promised a “moderate-to-difficult” six-mile hike on the Maine-New Hampshire branch of the Appalachian Trail, where nine-year-old Trisha McFarland was to spend Saturday with her older brother Pete and her recently divorced mother. When she wanders off to escape their constant bickering, then tries to catch up by attempting a shortcut through the woods, Trisha strays deeper into a wilderness full of peril and terror. Especially when night falls. Trisha has only her wits for navigation, only her ingenuity as a defense against the elements, only her courage and faith to withstand her mounting fear. For solace she tunes her Walkman to broadcasts of Boston Red Sox games and the gritty performances of her hero, number thirty-six, relief pitcher Tom Gordon. And when her radio’s reception begins to fade, Trisha imagines that Tom Gordon is with her—her key to surviving an enemy known only by the slaughtered animals and mangled trees in its wake.

⭐Stephen King just knows how to make you turn the page. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon was a very quick read in comparison to his longer works. That said, the story moves fast and linearly, telling the tale of a very disoriented little girl. The story is equal parts compelling, as it is horrifying, making the simple elements of wilderness something to fear and respect. In his other books, King spends countless pages vividly describing super natural terrors, suspending your beliefs for as long as you want to submit to them. This book really shows King’s ability to scare you without the use of clowns, curses, corpses and other scare tactics the horror genre likes to toy with. I recommend this book to anyone who likes the outdoors and our American pastime, baseball. Great Story. Great Characters. Great Timeline and plot. No complaints here.

⭐I loved this story about a little girl finding herself alone and lost in the woods and having to physically and mentally keep herself healthy enough to find a way out. As a New Englander I loved the local references and Red Sox being Trisha’s team.

⭐It was great story. I hope the movie does the book justice. I highly recommend. My 12 year old granddaughter and I read it together. (We formed a book club, two members!)

⭐As I’ve never read King before this wasn’t what I expected and I am pleasantly surprised. Our imaginations are terrible things.

⭐I had avoided reading any Stephen King books for a long time, until one of my cousins handed me this book and said ” You will like this “. I am amazed by the power of this story. I was completely enthralled. A simple story it seems of a young girl who gets lost while hiking the mountains in Maine. This is a story of how she survives the experience of being completely lost….without much food or water…..the hallucinationos of dehydration creeping upon her as real as anything one could imagine. It is a brilliant story that completely changed my mind about Stephen King. I would love to read another of his books that has this same quality of story telling. Having hiked the mountains of NH and Maine as a child on up into my thirties, I could completely relate. I have been lost, with the sun setting, to find myself in a world much like what Stephen’s story. It is the best story of what that experience is truly like that I have ever read. Kudos to King. He really got it this time and now I am a big fan !! Don’t miss this one. The negative reviews are by people who don’t understand what is happening in the book and how close to the true experience he writes in this book. It is just plain and simply the best Novel.

⭐Beautifully written. I was completely invested by the end of the first chapter. Another favorite from my favorite author. Thank you for another amazing story.

⭐Beautiful! Very detailed and large pop outs. Please see pictures.

⭐I had low expectations when I started reading this book. I got hooked quickly and could not put it down. I loved this book and it’s main character. I really cared about what happened to her and had to put the book down and walk away when it took a bad turn. It is not a horror story in the classical sense, it is a horror story for the the parents and brother of the little girl and for the main character finding herself desperately lost in the wilderness. I highly recommend this book.

⭐A very sad and terrifyingly realistic read, could happen to anyone in real life. I loved how Patricia depended so much on her radio and the red socks to get through it. I almost cried at the end, which King leaves tantalisingly ambiguous, so you’re left wondering, well, what happened in the end? Or at least I was. Tricia had to quickly mature for her age in the situation she was in and it’s shown well by King. Scary hallusinations for her as well. Another slow building horror, and you’ll find yourself routing for Tricia from page one. Didn’t think much of her mum it has to be said.

⭐I am a King fan but this was just slow and boring especially if you are not interested in baseball. A little girl lost in the woods and pages of description of the brambles, trees and stinging insects. Also will someone please tell Mr King the difference between minges and midges! The girl was being bitten by midges and he repeats it many times but calling them minges, I couldn’t help picturing this and it didn’t help the story. It appears he is so famous that neither proof reader or editor tell him when he’s got a word wrong which I find most annoying. Nobody is perfect!

⭐A pleasant book that doesn’t reach the heights of other King’s works. More a survival story than a horror, the book is a page turner but the darkest elements could be perhaps further explored. There are some of the author’s signature marks, such as the drinking father, wasps and, of course, baseball.

⭐This story is so not what you expect when you see the title and is probably one of the best stories I’ve read from Stephen King , it’s about a little girl who gets lost in a large wooded/forest area but that is where it only just gets better and better. Excellent story definitely recommend it.

⭐This is a sweet little story about a young girl called Trisha who becomes separated from her family in the middle of the Appalachian forest. She has only her Walkman for company and uses it to connect to the outside world, which keeps her spirits up as she desperately tries to find her way home. She is able to temporarily forget her ordeal by becoming absorbed in her favourite baseball team’s matches on the radio, and her fantasies over seeing her favourite player, Tom Gordon, in the forest help her deal with her loneliness.
